It never rains in southern... oh wait

    Turns out that it does rain now and then in southern California. However, I didn't see a single lap of the race due to its late start.

    So, if you were waiting for some, ahem, "reading material" :smilewinkgrin: from me today, sorry, I have nothing for you. Was the race any good? I've heard that it was pretty good for Fontana, but that's not really saying much.

    So, I hopped over to thatsracin.com to see what David Poole had to say and this is one of the comments I found.

    David, let me clue you in here. We already have this. The final decision on who runs Nascar was made when Nascar signed big 'ol contracts with Fox, NBC/TNT and now ESPN. TV's been running Nascar since 2001.

    The race came down to two drivers who are among the best at being smooth and consistent. Gordon made two different runs to get to Kenseth, but Kenseth never blinked or hiccupped. Not a great race for the casual fan, but, to me it was reminiscent of the first Brickyard 400 because it was very intense.

    As a matter of fact, I was looking for your provocative commentary! :thumbsup:

    I mostly kept up with the race via on-line leader board. I did watch the last 50 laps, and they were intense, just as swaimj said. Gordon was smoking the front right, lap after lap, and I was sure he'd catch Matt. Well, he did ... once. But couldn't make the pass. Then he faded.

    Too bad about Biffle running over his air hose on the last stop. He was probably the fastest dude out there at the end, and would've made the show interesting. Coulda woulda shoulda.

    Matt's pit crew was the best out there, and provided the margin of victory. They were awesome.

    Jr and DW had a lovely little interview before the race. :1_grouphug:

    Jr is now 35th in owner's points. :applause:

    I saw where it was a bad batch of parts that took out both Mark Martin and Earnhardt. So annoying.

    It was a very good race. Sorry they had as many empty seats as they did.

    The race pulled very good ratings for FOX. It was the most-watched televised sporting event of the weekend and it finished second only to the Oscars. A NASCAR race is the perfect alternative to watching that Hollywood drivel and a counter-programmer's dream. NASCAR ain't dead yet!
