In passages that are universally recognized as historical narrative there is a marked preponderance of preterites over the other three [verb] forms. In poetry there is a preponderance of imperfects and perfects. … Given the ratio of verbal forms, the statistical evidence for the text [of Genesis] being prose is overwhelming.
Or if you believe Jesus knew the truth of it, as he always held to it being literal historical book!

I believe that God started it all and He’s in charge of it. But the fact that you have the progressive evolution under His control, that doesn’t hurt my faith at all. But this thing [with young earth teachings], we just can’t be playing this.”
