It's personal between me and Him

I was born into the IFB ranks many years ago, and I will die in the same!

After I was born-again I found that I disagreed with a few things in the IFB Church. So I began searching to align with what I was certain the Scripture taught. I found in every direction I turned the differences doubled and tripled. The red flags were flying left and right, I could actually feel it in my Spirit, this is not what I see in the Scripture.

There are no perfect people on this earth, and it is certain there is no perfect Church. So I settled it and decided I would plant myself in what aligned the closest to what I believe the Scripture teaches.

I don't go to Church to please any denominational beliefs or the doctrines formulated by man. I go to worship my God and Savior, I'm there to honor and please Him. It's very personal for me regardless of who believes what doctrines. I see it as presenting myself before the Lord in faith, and accountable for my actions.

Gathering myself with the Brethren comes second to my presenting myself before Him in pure faith!

For a long time I criticized "start up churvhes" that were started in an area where many solid churches existed. Now, however, I attend a "start up" community church that meets on Sunday at a middle school and during the week at houses (my house last night). I have seen God working in ways I had not often before. Most of all I jave seen what a community of Christians (Christians sharing life together) can mean beyond what I thought was practical.

I say "attend" because there is not a membership role. There is, however, accountability as we are in the same community (area) and meet often (except me...I'm on swing shift....but my wife can tell me what I missed, like how God wants me to take out the trash, mow the lawn..you know, the important stuff).

Anyway, never say never. Years ago I would have said I'd be a Calvinist for life.

I have even grown to like lima beans.

@Charlie24

I have been thinking about the OP. I get what you are saying, and I think this is how we all should feel about our understanding any given time (that they ate correct, but always up fir correction).

But at the same time I believe that we need to continually evaluate our understandings. We "see as through a glass dimly" i this life, and we are (hopefully) continually growing and learning in Christ as we move from glory to glory.

When I came to believe Calvinism it was due to correcting some things in my previous understanding. I was there to stay. But it turned out to be for a season as God led me away from that philosophy through His word.

Now I hold my understanding as something distinct from my belief. My belief is in God and God's words. My understanding falls in line with the SBC denomination. My belief will not change. My understanding, hopefully, continues to change to become a little closer to my belief.

The downside is my answer to a lot of questions (like deacons married to one woman) is "this is my interpretation of the passage, this is why I interpret it this way. others disagree and they may be right".

I don't mind people questioning my understanding because I do it daily. They just help me out.

The up side is, while Christians may question my understanding, they cannot reject my belief without rejecting God.
