When they show up, how do you handle it?
    1) Politely decline their offer
    2) agrue their doctrine with them
    3) share the gospel with them
    4) mess with them (play jokes, say things to scare them, chase them off, etc.)

Most recently I invited them in and shared who Jesus was from the KJV (they'll use that one). Basically followed the Walter Martin's pattern: show them verses in the Bible about Jesus that set up contradiction according to their teaching, then have them try to explain, not from their books/magazines, but from the Scriptures.
Example: Heb.1 LORD says to the angels worship the Son vs. Matt. 4/Luke 4 the Son quotes the Father to Satan and says you should worship God alone (works well with John 5:23ff where Jeses is honored the same as the Father) and John 20:28 where he received worship and did not rebuke Thomas.
They left without being able to answer the question (not for me but for themselves I pray)

    Please share your approach...

I find that this works: Tell them they are welcomed to come into my home, but first we'll say a prayer in the name of Jesus Christ first, as this house only prays in Jesus' name.

    Then they walk away.

Since I frmly believe in the coming Kingdom of Christ to rule this world for 1000 years, and inevitably it is THAT subject they use as an opener; I invite them in to talk about it.
I never let them control the conversation. I will agree with them that God has promised a coming World of Righteousness. This ALWAYS puts them at ease and they let their defenses down.
At this point, I will ask them if they know for sure if they will be included in that Kingdom.
They usually respond with "I hope so". I ask them what that means. They will always respond with some kind of works they are trying to do to get there.

At THIS point, I use the OT to show them how they can know for sure, how they can know their sins are forgiven, and how they can personally know God in Christ.

Pual used the OT to convince Jews of his time about these things. We can too. When you meet a "works oriented" person, use the OT to show them their works are "as filthy rags".

They will go to James, (always) and try to show "faith without works is dead". I agree with them, (thus disarming them again) and show them the passage about Abraham that James is talking about. Then I take them BACK to Abraham being justified by faith many chapters earlier. Abraham believed God and was imputed with Righteousness. THEN he was further justified when he obeyed God.

By this time, they are completely interested and I show them the simple Gospel and encourage them to trust Christ's finished work on Calvary. They usually say "We can see that you believe this and we will not convince you. We don't have time to talk about this now, but we might come back again".

I let them go with one comment.

" 'Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord SHALL be saved'; please don't go away without prayerfully thinking about that."

    (This is what I do.)

    In HIS service;
    Jim

Option 5 -- take their Bible study. It is one thing NOT to go door to door yourself and share the truth of God's Word. But when someone in error COMES TO YOUR DOOR and asks to study the Bible - what excuse will we have THEN!!???

I say "SURE COME ON IN!!".

And the good news is that they DO believe in the Bible as the Word of God so they are happy to study it. You don't have to read their magazines - you can simply say "the Bible only" and they will be right there with you!

They also have to "agree" to use whatever translation you prefer. So no need to deal with their NWT!!

What more can you ask for!!??

These are not seminary-trained theologians coming to mess with your mind. They are lay people who really like to study the Bible and who are in doctrinal error! AND they are willing to come to your house every week and have a Bible study as long as the topics are in the order of their little red book!!

Typically you will find that these people go to a "kingdom hall" not more than 4 miles from where you live. So in a loose kinda way "they are your neighbors". Once they have come to your house a few times you will know them by first name and will know something about their family situation. Your objective should be "get to know them" and press the gospel points home with them as they are open to the Word in each lesson.

They know you have "no reason" to believe their authors - and have to admit from day 1 that the only "agreed upon source" is the Bible "alone".

    How cool is that??!!

    In Christ,

    Bob

Yes, the scripture about honoring the Father and the Son the same and "when you see Me you see the Father. and Jesus also says "I and the Father are One. They can scramble and wiggle around some of the other scripture but the latter usually clinches it. Also thanks to the advice above, that will be very helpful.

I usually tell them that I'm Christian and I attend SFX parish across the street. They then quickly walk away before I can say anything else.

Wow those are some good answers!
My dad did this so I would have to do the same thing.
I think I would ask them about the 144,000 (in Revalation)...... (according to their doctrine thats how many of them that they believe will get into heaven) then ask them how do they know for sure they are one of them? Then from there, I'd tell them about Jesus.

If you really want to witness to them, invite them in, ask them to only use KJV and no other books.

Then before they start, ask if you can pray. They probably will say they can't pray with you because you pray to Jesus or tell you to ahead, but will pay no attention.

BUT, when you start to pray, start this way: "our Father Jehovah God". That's the way they pray and they are REQUIRED to listen to any prayer started that way!! They will bow their head and won't lift it until you say amen!!

Then, (while you have their attention) you can pray something like this" we thank you God for salvation full and free. We praise you that we are saved by grace and not by works, lest any man should boast...etc,. You get the idea.

Then if course all the other things that people have offered. But please don't crawl under the table!!! [IMG]

P.S. My husband and I once used the Walter Martin approch and it is great!! They had invited us to their house, and we began with the prayer and then started asking them about the scriptures he gives.

After about an hour, they asked us to leave and told us we were just lost and there was no hope for us!! But there were young people there and they heard the whole thing, so we just prayed that it would give them food for thought and help lead them out of the Witnesses!!
