I'm not going to argue with anyone over this. Just posting this as a reminder of the continuing barbarism of some of our fellow human beings. Barbarism is committed against both people and animals. I think that at least every once in a while that we need to think about the barbarism committed toward animals.

So let me understand you. You say we have no business helping countries who have an oppressed human population, but you want to tell Canadians what they can do with their indigenous animals ?

Me thinks yer priorities are very skewed.

And why post something you aren't willing to discuss ?

Well I dont know, but it seems they promise club sandwiches if you dont club seals. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Where is my sandwich? Hold the pickle.

I have no problem with private aid to help those in need in other countries. I also don't have a problem with foreign aid given to other countries when doing so is in the national defense interests of the United States.

"This year Italy and Mexico passed legislation to ban the importation of seal products. Belgium, UK and the Netherlands are all considering legislation to ban seal products. The U.S. also prohibits the importation of seal products."

==The Word of God actually has something to say about this type of issue...

"A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, but even the compassion of the wicked is cruel" Prov 12:10

"Doing wickedness is like sport to a fool" Prov 10:23

While I am not opposed to hunting or eating meat I am opposed to any form of cruel treatment. There are ways to obtain meat without being cruel to the animal (ie..not making it suffer). Any human who would "club" any animal to death is doing wickedness. When options exist that allow us to obtain meat in non-cruel manners (ie..the animal does not suffer) there is no excuse for this behavior.

This is 2006 A.D., not 1006 A.D. Fur is no longer needed today with the advent of modern fabrics.

And meat is no longer needed with the advent of protein shakes and vitamin tablets. ;)

Your modern fabric argument is also a good one against all leather made products with the many synthetic leathers out there today which are cheaper and require no animals killed.

Ken H, I am an advocate for good stewardship of the resources and animals that God has created on this earth. From what I understand, I believe the seal hunt is good stewardship and not an abuse of God's creation. It may not be great stewardship, but I think it is pretty good stewardship relative to how other animals are cared for and used for human consumption.

    Bro Curtis,

    WHAT???

Where did he say anything about not helping humans in need???...

I am one born again conservative pro-republican pentecostal/evangelical who happens to be a lover of Gods wonderful little creations called animals.

I eat meat, I have no problem with hunting, I think theres nothing wrong with a mink coat, and I love fried chicken.

But when I see any kind of footage that show cruelty to Gods animals I get sick to my stomach.

The clubbing of seals and skinning them alive.

The abuse in the fried chicken industry.

People who dont have time to treat their dog right so they just tie them to a post somewhere for days on end because "they'll fend for themself OK"....until the authorities find them immaciated and on the verge of a slow death by starvation.

    etc etc etc.

    All of it sickens me.

    Mike

Sounds like an internal conflict to me. I think the best policy is non-interventionism...or perhaps we could try diplomacy...send it to the UN.

I am, however, glad to see that you have strong and consistent convictions about something that doesn't change depending on the win-loss ratio of the Razorbacks. Too bad it is about a bunch of animals and not for the liberation of millions of humans in the Middle East.

    Well, heres another one...

    Joseph said...

When did he post anything about "humans in the middle east?". There is nothing in his post about people in the middle east, just like there is nothing about "oppressed human beings" as someone else accused him of saying.

Why are you guys putting words in his mouth that he didnt say?

Is this something in the link?

If so, dont attribute everything in the link to the poster! His post seemed to only be concerned with cruelty towards animals, which is a hidious thing to me as well as to Him.

I just watched a video where some killers of baby seals used their boat as a battering ram against those observing their activities - and observing them is legal.

After this action on their part I don't see how anyone can still be on the side of the baby seal killers. I already understood what kind of people they are. Now everyone else should understand as well.

    </font>[/QUOTE]Mike,

Go read Ken's posting history and you will understand the context of our statements. Ken doesn't care about the suffering of the oppressed in the Middle East one-tenth as much as he does some animals in Canada. He is an isolationist when it comes to the suffering of other human beings, but a neo-con when it comes to baby seals. I am just glad he is able to have some consistent convictions about something...too bad it is not about the suffering of human beings.

Mike, when you have read enough of Joseph B's posts you will understand his treatment of Ken, and anyone else who disagrees with his Neocon views.

    Terry,

Ken is actually quite the neo-con when it comes to non-humans. I only wish he also cared about human beings as much as he does for baby seals.
