Ivanka Trump has reportedly been likened to a “half-wit” Saudi prince by an Indian diplomat after it was announced she would lead the US at a summit in southern India.

Donald Trump on Thursday announced that his daughter, who works for him as an official unpaid adviser, would head the country's delegation at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in November.

An unnamed Indian diplomat toldBobby Ghosh, the editor-in-chief of the Hindustan Times: "We regard Ivanka Trump the way we do half-wit Saudi princes. It's in our national interest to flatter them.”

Indians bathe in the same river they use as a sewer and half of them are starving to death, so who cares what they think?

"Indians" leads one to think that all of India is affronted over Trumps selection of Ivanka. The article quotes one anonymous diplomat of unspecified rank or authority.

Reminds me of being told by a church member that "LOTS OF PEOPLE" are upset with you. Turned out to be only 3 including the one who was trying to help me by reporting all the "TROUBLE" he had a hand in starting and keeping stirred up.

I personally doubt the diplomat in question could Globally Entrepreneur his way out of a wet paper sack. Few of our lifelong bureaucrats are able to Entrepreneur anything.
In India many of theses roles are traditional with one family member following in the footsteps of another for generations leading to a sense of entitled ownership of the bureaucracy and a disdain for new comers or outsiders.

Much of the criticism of her various roles Trump assigns her comes three sources:
1. Career diplomats who feel she is infringing on 'Their' territory,
2. Reporters who feel excluded because they can't access the scoop from their usual network of sources or
3. Those who would find fault with almost anyone Trump appointed to lead the delegation.

One thing seems clear to me, Trump trusts Ivanka to do what he says and to report back to him without a personal agenda. It is unfortunate that he doesn't feel he can trust the State Department to do the same.

Hiring such close relations in other parts of Civilization is known as nepotism. One can't help wonder whether her qualifications is her DNA and nothing else.

But now that she is there, she should be judged not on her qualifications but by results

Results do matter. But nepotism has been around for a looong time every before JFK put Bobby on the payroll as Attorney General. I have often wondered about Bobby's qualifications for the job and his results.

I doubt the comments warrant much US attention in any case, but the Saudis may regard it with concern.

I was thinking the same thing myself. And I doubt we will hear what repercussions the Indian diplomat will face if his attempt at being cute rubs the Saudis or Trump the wrong way.
