This news: Ms. Rowling, whose best-selling 766-page Harry Potter....provoked a disappointed outcry when she admitted she didn't believe in magic.
"I believe in some kinds - the magic of imagination and the magic of love. But the magic of waving a wand and making things happen, no."

I should think her statement settles the issue on what her books are all about; pure fiction and children's entertainment,,,,,,,plus a few millions of pounds in her purse, of course.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Personally, I don't care what JK Rowling says, I care what God says: [IMG]

    Exod.22
[18] Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

    Deut.18
[10] There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

    1Sam.15
[23] For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.

    2Chr.33
[6] And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

Galatians 5:[18] But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

[20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

[21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Would a loving, caring parent purposefully burn their child with a hot iron? Or even let their child get close to a hot iron?

Perhaps God is just mean & only warned us to stay away from this stuff because He doesn't want us to have fun or doesn't understand that children like to pretend, eh?

    Jim 1999,
Good observation. I agree wholeheartedly. It is good to know that not everyone here is ultra extreme right wing about the "Harry Potter" books.

"And stone the child who will not obey..."

And God didn't write Harry Potter and Rowling makes no pretense to be writing a Christian book.....It is fiction. Pure and simple, but fundamentalist have a habit of seeing what isn't, and that is just as wrong.

    Cheers,

    Jim

i have had a lot of people ask me what i think about harry potter. i always answer then with "well i have not read it so i can not condem it or applaud it. but the witchcraft in it makes me very leary of it."

i had some friends get into witchcraft - deeply. so i am very cautious of anything to do with it. i have heard that the spells in the book (which i believe are in latin) are real spells. can anyone confirm that with hard facts (not hearsay)?

On the John Ankerberg show he did a four part series comparing the Witchcraft used in Harry Potter to the Witchcraft used in Satanism. The amount of things that are the same are really quite frightning.

No type of Witchcraft is wholesome, be it for Children or Adults.
