"Many years ago when I was pastoring in Garland, Texas, I had a daily radio broadcast. Ordinarily the broadcast was live. However, on occasion, if I were scheduled to be out of town for a day or so, I would make a tape and take it to the radio station located on the eleventh floor of the Stoneleigh Hotel of Dallas, Texas. On one occasion I took a tape to the station. When I got on the elevator, I told the operator, who was an attractive young lady, that I wanted to go to the eleventh floor. She didn't hear a word I said! She was in a daze because Elvis Presley had just ridden her elevator. Finally I convinced her that I needed to go to the eleventh floor, and all she talked about was the fact that she had been alone with Elvis Presley for a few minutes. She finally gathered herself together and took me to the eleventh floor. She waited as I took the tape across the hallway to the station and then took me back to the main floor. On the way, however, she stopped the elevator, and Elvis Presley got on. He had on a green satin suit and at that time was in his heyday. I introduced myself to Elvis, we shook hands, and then I asked him, "Elvis, do you know, if you died today, you would go to Heaven?" His answer was startling. "I certainly do," he said. "I was saved when I was a child." Then he proceeded to tell me the circumstances. As best I remember, he said that his grandmother or some other relative had taken him to hear an old-fashioned Gospel preacher. He had received Christ as his Saviour. He told me in clear, positive language of his salvation. I then looked him square in the eye and said, "Elvis, how could a person who is born again live the kind of life that you are living?" He said, "Jack, I got tired of the rules. I wanted to be free." Need I say more? The very type of death that he died is living proof that though he thought he was leaving slavery to go to freedom, he was leaving freedom to go to slavery."

Very interesting. .. while on this point, I am very interested to know what some of you guys think about this. In a case such as this would you say that Elvis (or could be anyone)actually was saved and lost interest (fell by the wayside) or was never really saved in the first place.

Just curious about the viewpoints of some of you guys.

I heard Dr. Hyles preach a message that he named, "XX Reasons Why Elvis Presley Could Not Go To Hell"

I cannot remember how many points he had but the crux of the message was that Elvis could not have gone to hell because he sang Rock music. He could not have went to hell because he used drugs. He could not have went to hell because he lived a wicked lifestyle. If Elvis Presley died and went to hell it was because he rejected Jesus Christ. That is the only reason one would have to spend an eternity in hell.

    J.R. Graves.... Wow!

    Good question!

Once saved always saved....or was he ever saved?

I really have to think about it.

Lets raise another question to go with it....lets define backslider. Is this once saved always saved or not really saved?

If we know Jesus and His word is true....and yet we need to follow the ways of a material world...is this apostasy...or are we really not saved?

Ok this is gonna be deep! ;)

If he wasn't truly saved, it is tragic. :(

If he was saved and backslidden, it is tragic. :(

So many of them were raised in the church and got their musical start with gospel music.

I still pray for Willie Nelson's salvation.

And I praise God for people like Charlie Daniels.

    Interesting story. Thanks for posting.

From everything I've read about Elvis, he had many moments of spirituality and even encouraged people to find Christ. If he was saved and I believe he must have been to keep re-affirming Christ - it's heaven even though at times he lived like hell.
One thing I really sympathized with him about - his penchant for blowing away television sets. Man have I ever wanted to do that more than a few times.

BTW, I met Elvis once, also. He said, "Hey, man."

Considering the past of Jack Hyles, couldn't we ask the same thing about him?

    Hello!

Few years ago, I heard a preacher at the puplit in my former Baptist church. He said on Elvis. He said, that, when Elvis received phone calls, he witnessed gospel to people on the phone about salvation.

Do I buy preacher's story on Elvis?

    In Christ
    Rev. 22:20 - Amen!
