Mark 5:22 tells us that Jairus approached Jesus about his daughter who was sick. Vs 35 tells us that some men told Jairus his daughter had died.

In vs 39 Jesus said she is not dead but sleeping.

So were the men right - had she actually died.
When Jesus said she was only sleeping - did he mean he would bring her back to life?
Was the girl in a comma?

Maybe Jesus was talking about what He was going to do for her as He did Lazarus. I do not know enough about the Greek and Hebrew term of "sleep" to know if that is physical or spiritual death.

Yep.. and many many more biblical other passages of scripture that reflect this same understanding. Remember, they saw death as something that you cannot come back from. Jesus was using this as imagery and thus speaking to them not in a literalistic way (as in taking a few Zzzz's). He was about to 'wake her up'.. and was illustrating to them a completely different understanding of the physical and spiritual realms.

As Bob stated - sleep can also mean 'Death' in scripture.

The girl was dead but for those who have faith the bible often refers to them as sleeping an instance is Stephen who was stoned and went to sleep. Stephen was dead in this life but will pass into a knew life.

Looking at the Greek use of sleep and dead, Jarius daughter was sleeping as jesus said. The greek word he used always meant sleeping not dead.

koimaō can mean dead or a sleep not used in jarius daughters story.
