There may not be Census Workers at my door, but, what about those pesky, infinite number of Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses? I was hoping that many of you could provide your best and most successful method of getting the Jehovah Witness Teams and, or, the two polite Mormon boys in white starched shirts and skinny black ties to leave your door step, and never return.

As for me and my house, we have a privacy fence around our entire front and back yard. We keep the gate locked most of the time, and they just can't get up here. It was an expensive deterrent, but, it works. :applause:

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul :type:

If they stand real close together I only have to use one barrel. Otherwise it takes both of them.

    ...what...? :D

If I have time, I usually invite them in and share the gospel with them. We usually have a lively discussion, especially with the Mormons, who are always very intelligent and very well educated. It's fun, sort of like debating some of you guys on here.

    Good For You!

That takes courage. They are well versed. About 20 years ago, I actually got through to one of the Mormons I was talking with, He even took a track. Of course, his partner got up and stated that it was time to go, and as I watched them walk down my sidewalk toward their bikes, the one took the track from the other, and ripped it up, tossing the shredded track on my lawn.

I'd say that that meeting went quite well:laugh:

I've told both groups about Jesus (the real Jesus, not their made-up Jesus) and now, for some odd reason, they don't come around. Isn't that strange?

I haven't had a visit from either of them for about 3 years. That last time it was 2 mormon guys, wearing their name tags. I opened the door and one said, "Hello, sir--" Before he could say anything else, I said, "CLEAR OUT O' HERE!-- NOW!" feeling my throat grind. They turned and left and none of their kind has returned.

I simply tell them that I'm not going to debate them but they need to understand that their Jesus and my Jesus are different. My Jesus is not a created being nor is He Lucifer's brother. Then when they start up the debate I stop them and say that I'm not going to debate. I don't twist scripture nor do I have extra Biblical teachings or writings to help me understand the Bible. I take the Bible at face value and that's it. Generally, they leave. I have heard that hanging the Stars and Bars on your house or on a flag pole in your yard acts as a good JW's repellent.

On occasion (maybe once every 3 - 4 months), a JW team may show up at my town house complex. The plainly posted "No Soliciting" signs apparently don't seem to faze them at all.

Most of the times when they attempt to canvass my complex I'm not home. In such cases, they'll leave some material by the Watchtower Society. Of course the words "Jehovah's Witnesses" never appear in its contents.

The few times I do happen to be home when they arrive, I do NOT invite them in. To invite them in to me comes too close to violating 2 John 10. I may listen to their spiel, but I do not accept their material.

The only time that the Holy Spirit ever impressed me to really engage them in any conversation (and, again, this was at the door) was one time (when I was living elsewhere) when I told them that I was a saved person and know fully well that I'll remain saved because of the finished work of the God-Man Jesus Christ on the cross. His subsequent resurrection from the dead guarantees the truthfulness of what He said while here on earth. Moreover, I have God the Holy Spirit dwelling within me and His inspired and fully inerrant Word to guide me. He has given me untold blessings, guidance and direction, plus His promise that I'll spend eternity with Him in heaven the moment He calls me home. I'm completely and totally kept by His power and have full confidence in the promises in His Word.........Now, what to you have to offer me that's better than that!!!

The "lead" man seemed to be unprepared to respond to that and meekly said something to the effect that he wasn't about to argue about what I'd just said. Basically, he (and his youthful partner [his son maybe?]) simply tucked tail and removed his presence from the property. To my knowledge, never again did any JW's ever come to that address!

Really? You don't use commentaries? You don't listen to sermons? You don't read books on Christianity? You don't listen to anything anyone says on BB? Those are teachings and writings that help you understand the Bible. God has spoken and the rest is commentary.

The Bible wasn't written in a vacuum. It was written to a specific people at a specific time. Unless you're not an expert in ancient near east culture and the Biblical languages,

Honestly, though some have been quite kind, I am shocked by some of the things people are writing here. "Clear out of here now?" Only have to use one barrel? These folks are, though deceived, image-bearers of the one true God. You don't have to invite these people in for tea or beer or something, but I would think you could show them some Christian love by treating them as Christ would have.

I witnessed to two young Mormon men for months years ago. They eventually brought one of their elders to my house. They came by two or three times a week for probably six months.

One fellow had been brought up Catholic and converted to Mormonism. He would get very angry when I showed him scripture that contradicted his belief. The other fellow had been a Mormon all his life, he was from Utah. This fellow actually listened to me and I think I got to him to a great degree. He was nice and would ask many questions. I think he went away really thinking deeply, and considering my point of view.

I made the elder cry. He was an old man, probably 85 years old. He was a nice old man. He was a widow who looked forward to being with his wife again as the Mormons teach. When I showed him we will not be married in heaven he cried. It was terrible, I felt bad for the old guy. They never came back again after that.

I work with a JW, and they are tough. They have an answer for everything. If you tell them they must believe on Jesus to be saved they will agree with you, though this is not what they truly believe.

The JWs do not believe Jesus to be God. They also do not believe hell to be literal. Best thing you can do is just show them lots of verses on both. But they are very difficult to get to.

The Mormon's I have invited in know little to nothing about early Church history. When asked why none of the doctrines unique to LDS are not found in any of the writings of the Early Church Fathers they just get a blank stare on their face.

The Jehovah's Witnesses are better versed although they really don't like to leave their rehearsed script.

All the JW's I have met are barely literate.

Wow, what a nice little diatribe. You seem to have no clue as to the belief system of the JW's or Mormons. And, yes I do use other literature but it is not considered to be equal to the Bible nor does it rise above the Bible. Nor do I believe in an extra-Biblical jesus. So, I'm willing to share the facts from God's word and that's it. I'll listen to them if they are willing to listen to me. However, it's been my experience that in listening to me there are constant interruptions challenging what I'm saying. They were unwilling to extend to me the same courtesy I gave to them. There's a difference between sharing and a debate. I'm not going to debate.

No, actually, they're not. They've just fooled everyone into thinking that. The truth is that they work off a very tight and well rehearsed script and once you get them off that script, their whole presentation falls apart. The truth is that your average Mormon doesn't even know enough about Mormon doctrine to be able to sell it.

We live so far out in the country that we don't really have a problem with them, but where we used to live was Mormon central (in fact, both Andy Reid and Eagles' receiver, Chad Lewis went to the Mormon church right across the street from our church) and we talked to them all the time. My wife would even call the 1-800 number they advertise on TV to get them to come to our house.

Once you get them off the script, it's always very easy to share the Gospel with at least one of them, but the other will usually get him out of there pretty quickly in that case.

Jehovah's Witnesses are a little more difficult. They, too, can only read from a pre-prepared scripture, but the big difference is that the moment they encounter any resistance at all, they'll get mad at you.

I actually got cussed out royally by a couple of JWs once (and this was language that would have made a truck driver blush).

I asked one, "Do you worship Jesus Christ?" and they replied, "Why, of course we do."

Then, I turned to the other and asked, "Is Jesus Christ God?", to which she replied that Jesus Christ is most certainly not God.

So I then asked her, "So what do you think about your partner here stating that Jehovah's Witnesses worship someone other than God?"

    She started screaming at me.

Then, once she stopped, I asked her partner if she was one of the 144,000 and how she knew she might not be number 144,001.

They both started screaming at me. That's when their screaming made my dog start barking (110# Collie/Shepherd mix) and they ran out of there as fast as they could.

I treat them as the decieved non_Christian persons that they are.

I do not invite them into my house, however I greet them politely. Once they get their opening out, I shake my head and stop them with, "I am settled in my belief that Christ died for my sins and I am already a member of a Bible believing church." By this time their eyes are glazing over and they know I'm a waste of their time. If they persist and try to give me literature, I simply decline. I haven't had many to persist.

If it is hot summer time and they don't run off my porch (cause mostly they do) I offer them a bottle of water as Christ said something about a cup of water offered in His name....

Then I let them retreat in peace. :D I think I'm on everyone's ignore list now. I havent had a "visitation" in a couple of years now.

I've had very little encounters with Mormons. My experience has been with JW's. John Deere is right at least as far as my experience is concerned. I seemed to know more Mormon doctrine than the two young men at the door. Either they were lying through their teeth or some very naive missionaries.

Maybe Your Boys Were Not Sharp...

I don't want to disagree with you, but, the Mormons I encountered 20 years ago, were well versed, hard to budge from any script they were following. Maybe they are not as well taught today, and we all know that the youth of today are less prepared to argue their faith and stand up for what they believe. This is often true in Christianity, and may be true in the life of the Mormons you have encountered.

Any way, a lot of believers are not even knowledgeable enough to get them off script, and this is sad. One course that all churches should teach is recognizing cults, and taking the beach head when confronting a cult.

I used to teach my youth, and later on, my church about the teachings and principles of Mormonism and the Jehovah Witnesses, It helped them to be better at sharing the real and true Jesus when they came a knockin' at their doors.

Thanks for your story. I couldn't help but chuckle at their losing their tempers at you. That is something I never encountered.

However, I would advise anyone with these cultists at their door to not invite them into your house. Talking to them on the porch, on the lawn, over the fence, or, through the screen-door is about as close as I'd let them get to my personal belongings and loved ones. After all, the are a cult, and a cult is under the influence of the devil, and I'd never invite an advocate of the devil into my home for any reason. :tonofbricks:

No, no, I'm not saying that those folks don't believe those things about Christ and the Bible. I was just taking issue with the statement "I take the Bible at face value and that's it." Even the sola scriptura, sola fide reformers didn't believe that.

Anyways, not reducing ourselves to a debate with Mormons is probably the best choice, and the second part of my message wasn't primarily directed toward you, but some of the others on here who had horrific things to say about other image-bearers.

    Blessings.

Then you're one of the very few because if you ever talk to people in apologetics to different cults, they'll tell you the same thing I did.

We're all children of the Devil until we're born again.

I have actually had to show Mormon missionaries 2 Nephi 25:23 because they really didn't seem to know their cult taught that.
