Matthew 12:36 KJV says, "But I [Jesus] say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement."

Proverbs 10:19 KJV says, "In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin; but he that refraineth his lips is wise."

Titus Ch. 2 KJV specifies that "Old men," "Older women," "Young women," and "Young men" all be "sober."

I Peter 4:11a KJV says, "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God."

Webster's Dictionary gives, "chat n. light, informal talk."

None of Jesus' words are light and informal, but rather all of Jesus' words are direct to an issue, concise, axiomatic, and germane to the agenda of His Father in Heaven. Jesus did not chat or babble.

Every single word of God is wisdom, powerful, and beautiful. How amazing God is.

If you think we shouldn't "chat" why are you here? If you don't like the internet, get off it!

Easy with the anger, geeeeee. I didn't take this post as a slam against chatting, unless I missed something.

JoReba took a shot at "chatting" in her title, whether or not she intended to. The word "chat" is used in various contexts in todays world and one of those contexts includes message boards such as the one we are discussing on today.

If every word coming out of her mouth is not edifying, as Christ's were, then she's not following her own admonishment and needs to rethink her position.

JoReba, I'm not going to take a potshot. Thanks for the post. You have strong convictions, good for you. I take the point that Jesus didn't mince words, and didn't have one idle word. Ever.

By the way, when we look at Christs words, i.e. Luke 11:39ff, and elsewhere, some wouldn't see that as 'edifying." Too bad for them. Some have the word edifying all wrong in the first place.

he was fully human, so hewould have laughed, told jokes, been serious at times. stern, rebuked, smiled, cried

he did everything that we do, yet wothout sin being involved!

And I do think that he did not just speak and talk "the Bible" all the time!

Actually, manageriekeeper, in this venue the words out of my mouth cannot be heart.

Is every word you post in here edifying? May I pray for you? God bless your sensitive feelings as you try your best to serve Jesus.

    Let's be friends. Okay?

    Luke 11:39ff. are indeed edifying.

Who in Christendom having read these words from Jesus would not understand the nature and operation of Arrogant Professional Religious Talkers who have little or no spiritual discernment?

Let's discuss this more, and find the wonder of God's edifying Word for us today as we serve Him. Okay? I like the way you think.

Who gets to decide who "Arrogant Professional Religious Talkers" are? You?

    Okay. Have fun with that.

Sensitive? Me??? No, no, no. I'm harsh, callous, liberal and smart enough to see a zinger as it flies across my head. How do you know "Jesus didn't reveal Himself through chatting"? My Bible says he chatted quite often. Matter of fact He had to off into the wilderness to get a little peace and quite and not have to keep talking to all the people who came to hear His "chats". Christ was quite the celebrity.

Do you really believe every single word that came out of Christ's mouth was religious in nature? What do you think He talked about at the wedding in Cana before He turned the water into wine?

Just a few things to think about.

Never said he did. But he was human too. You seem to think those two things are incompatible.

    Who said He did?

"Idle words" means more than chatting and making conversation......

    > I take the point that Jesus didn't mince words, and didn't have one idle word. Ever.

Then he must have been mute most of his life.

John wrote that he selectively only reported important stuff.
