If Jesus died for my sins on the cross and from the cross prayed, "Father, forgive them . . ." then I and most everyone else must be the subject of that prayer. Jesus died for all who don't know what they are doing.

that's kind of lopsided logic. what possible inkling do we have that Christ is praying about anyone other than the ones who were at the cross crucifying him? Also- are all of Christ's prayers answered 'yes?' Please read his prayer in the garden for the answer to that.

Yes. All of Christ's prayers are answered yes.
His prayer in the Garden was, "If it be possible for this cup to pass from me," not, "Please don't let me go to the cross."

well i have to agree with tesas on this one. I mean, i'm not going to set out to try to prove this in each time Christ did pray. I rely on the fact that Christ would not ask for anything that was not in Gods will.

In fact, this is what the verse is saying. Lets look.

38 Then he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me." 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt."

This is the Son of Man...crying to the Father saying..DEAR GOD...i am in full sorrow....and my heart is so heavy that it nearly kills me..

and he says this as the son of man....
"i ask you to take tis sorrow from me...but...not in MY WILL....but do as your will"

This passage is showing Christ as full man...or Son of Man. and it shows us how to pray when it is rough in our life.

    or...
"Lord i'm hurting here...and i would like you to step in and help...but not if it is not your will"

now as to the OP...i do not understand the point.

i know you are not saying all are forgiven for their sins...for that would mean all would go to heaven.

so..can you ask this another way?

    sorry...i'm slow sometimes

While I know there was the 'thy will be done' part of Christ's prayer, my point was that he DID ask for the cup to be taken from him. that was my point. I wasn't trying to take away from Christ's intercessory power or anything. :D

Why does "them" have to mean "I and most everyone else"? Why not just those there who were crucifying him?

If he died for MY sins why does it matter if I am personally present?

That doesn't address the question. How do you know that those for whom he died and those for whom he prayed "forgive them" are exactly the same group?

Also, what exactly does "died for" mean?

    That's what I want explained. I don't accept the
God the Accountant" theory of the Atonement.

I can't find any prayers that Jesus prayed where his request was not granted.
You mean that one that reads "If it is possible" and "not my will, but yours be done". Jesus DID NOT ask for something that was not granted in the garden.

it does not matter. few were present..over the scope of ALL time. But His death and blood covering went back in time and forward in time.
