Jim Bakker Show

I had been occasionally watching Jim Bakker's show on television. He and a guy by the name of John Shorey have been talking about end times. Shorey believes that God's judgment of the nations will begin this March, that the tribulation will begin one year from this March, and that 3 1/2 years from March of 2016, or in September of 2019, the rapture will occur.

Any comments? Anyone been looking at these shows?

Any time someone comes out with a prediction about the exact timing of end times events, I cringe. The Bible clearly states that none of us know, and it is not given us to know, so we must be ever watchful and vigilant.
Mark 13:24-33 said:
24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
If John Shorey is claiming he knows when these things will happen, then John Shorey must also claim himself to be God the Father, as Jesus (the most infallible source we've ever had access to) said that only the Father knows the day and the hour in which these things will come to pass.

Also, you're talking about mid-trib rapture vs pre-trib rapture vs general resurrectionist amils...it can get ugly...

Yeah, I've been listening to some of John Shorey's stuff while working, and he's out there... He's just grabbing scripture and twisting it however he feels to make it fit his mid-trip rapture point of view. Apparently within the next three years or so the Muslims are going to somehow give the Temple Mount back to the Jews, tear down the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Jews will rebuild the Temple, and they will re-institute animal sacrifice. That's just the tip of the iceberg with this guy.

I appreciate your detailed answer instead of just a drive-by. :) That's not to criticize others, but I always enjoy reading answers with details.

I heard him speak at a church in Charlotte NC on New Years Eve 1999. He went on for almost 2 hours on how the tribulation was going to start when the year 2000 dawned. Never read from the Good Book. He had a copy of The Bible Code by Michael Drosin and kept babbling about the coming horror.

The only horror was being stuck in a church with Jim Bakker yapping and not having a car of my own to leave.

I've always wondered about these people who try to set dates, even very general ones. With all their scripture quoting, there is one significant scripture they seem to forget.

I wonder what will happen to Bakker's and Shorey's ministries if the prediction doesn't come true. I wonder if they ever think about that.

I've seen bits and pieces of it when I visit my mother. She's got DirectTV and flips among the "church" channels when I'm over there. His most recent wife also wears too much makeup. He hawks survival gear and food. Has a prophecy segment. It's a very strange mix of content. We watch it and groan.
