I recently put Jim's name in the internet and came across a note from someone who had followed and worked for Jim for many years. I was in college with Jim at Baptist Bible College in the early 70's. In fact why I put his name in the search engine was related to a lesson I am teaching. We were together in a hermanutics class. I started my sermon with an illustration about John the Baptist. I said, "he was a man with a large leather belt, camels hair and ate locusts and honey. And his name was "Jim Delaschmidt!" There was probably 75 in that class which broke them all up. It took a couple of minutes before I could get back to my sermon.
What's so interesting about that is, that my current pastor, Jeremy Coppock, in Titusville Florida also knew Jim when Jim went on to Liberty University. They both studied there.
The pictures that were posted with the announcements of his preaching revivals did not do Jim justice.
You see, Jim was the spitting image of the real life example of "Yosemite Sam" of the cartoon. Jim had a big mustache, a vest and he was a short, rolly polly kind of guy. I can still see him in my minds eye. He always carried a small leather val-ease wherein he had his notes and Bible. I'm a little saddened to know that he's gone but my memory of him will remain with me until I see him in glory. The article did not give Jim's age but mine at 78, it won't be real long before I get to see my brother in person.
