Conservative firebrand former Illinois Rep. Joe Walsh announced Sunday with ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos on ABC's "This Week" that he's launching a long-shot Republican presidential primary challenge against President Donald Trump.

When Stephanopoulos pointed out the massive uphill climb Walsh has in front of him in the primary thanks to Trump's overwhelmingly high approval rating within the party, the controversial former congressman argued that conservatives should have an alternative to the president.

"I'm running because he's unfit; somebody needs to step up and there needs to be an alternative. The country is sick of this guy's tantrum -- he's a child," said Walsh, who was elected to the House in the 2010 Tea Party wave, but only served one term before becoming a conservative talk radio host.

Joe Walsh.....one of my choice old time rockers. ‘Walk Away, You can’t argue with a sick mind’, or ‘Life’s Been Good’. Never heard of the other Joe Walsh, but he isn’t impressing me with his political acumen.

Not sure of this wannabe's angle, but he is not honest with himself, or with the current political situation. Why believe this tiger has changed his stripes? Imagining we would be better than we are in the same situation is a common malady. Wanting to walk in the other guy's moccasins is not proof of being better. The proverbs consistently suggest otherwise.

...the Democrats are surely loving this rhetoric that ultimately will be spun to smear Republicans in general:

Joe Walsh: ‘I Wouldn’t Call Myself a Racist,’ but ‘I’ve Said Racist Things on Twitter’

Wow! What do you think about all that, Kentucky?

Calling Obama a Muslim and born in Kenya doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Obama belonged to a black-only church in Chicago that preached liberation theology, aka communism, so he is a cultist at best or a Muslim perhaps considering his cozy deal with Iran.

Furthermore, Obama himself said in one of his books that he was born in Kenya, so a lot of people quote him.

It is not racist to call someone a Muslim. Islam is a religion, not a race. Muhammed might have been racist since he insisted that he was white from head to toe and that the devil is black and that it will be a black man who will destroy Mecca. And there is more along this line from Muhammed about the low value black slaves in comparison to white slaves, etc. So what race is Islam?

I agree with you that the media will try to use Walsh to smear Trump. Maybe Walsh thinks that he can fill an arena and have people standing outside.
