    Check this out:

    Chicago scalpers asking $190
for tickets to hear TV preacher
    By ABP staff
CHICAGO (ABP) -- Tickets to hear popular TV preacher Joel Osteen in a Chicago arena reportedly are commanding a scalper's markup that rivals rock superstars U2.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, $10 tickets to the Houston pastor's May 5-6 "Worship Tour" appearances at the Allstate Arena in suburban Rosemont, Ill., are selling on popular Internet concert-ticket sites for as much as $190 -- almost 20 times their face value.
U2 will also appear in Chicago in May, and the $49.50 tickets are going on the same ticket sites for $400 and more.
The youthful-looking and dynamic Osteen, 41, has built a considerable national following via television broadcasts of his sermons from Houston's charismatic Lakewood Church. In the few years since he took over the pulpit previously occupied by his late father, Lakewood has grown into one of the nation's largest churches, with an average about 25,000 in attendance.
"Have these people no morals? No conscience?" one reader said in an indignant note to the Sun-Times religion writer. "They are selling $10 tickets for an event dedicated to God and prayer for a hundred bucks or more!! Truly sinful."
Osteen spokesman Don Iloff said the church started selling tickets at the request of sold-out arenas worried about crowd control. "It's not a moneymaker for us," Iloff told reporter Cathleen Falsani. "It costs $750,000 to put on the event. Do the math. Even at $10 apiece it doesn't begin to cover it."
The newspaper noted $10 tickets are still available, despite the Internet scalping.
For her part, Falsani said she viewed the scalping differently than did her reader. "The sold-out arenas and ticket scalping -- legal or otherwise -- means thousands of people are willing to sacrifice their hard-earned money to listen to the gospel message," she wrote. "And that, in supposedly secular 2005, is a scandal of a different kind."

It's my opinion, that there seems to be a multitude of spiritually hungry people out there.

A Typical televangelist: repeat this prayer--now you are saved; "name it and claim it'--real appealing to the carnal nature--somewhere between Jim Bakker and Benny Henn.

Ah. An Heretick™, then. Now, what did I do with that stake? Or shall we be Old Testament, and stone the false prophets to death?

"Benny Henn"? Is he some kind of chicken who knocks people down with his bad breath? :D

    Yours in Christ

I do not believe they are hungry enough to pay the cost of following Christ He commands and the gospel demands. Those preachers who step up to the plate and lead the people down the road of the cost of following Jesus see a very different crowd. So much preaching today is a self help session instead of humility before God and seeking Him and getting the wisdom only He gives.

Osteen is definitely a preacher of the Gospel of Prosperity. His popularity is based on the garbage gospel, "if you believe everything in your life will be ok." Nevermind that Christians still suffer in this sinful world along with the unbelievers. Half of the chaplaincy work that I did at one of the major Hospitals in the Texas Medical Center in Houston was undoing the damage of his false gospel. I worked with people who believed that God had forsaken them or they just didn't have enough faith because they still suffered from cancer. If the book of Job can teach us anything it is this just because a person suffers does not mean that they are unrighteous. Sometimes, people suffer so that God maybe revealed through their suffering.

I am debating whether or not to tell you all a little story about this "preacher".

It shines not a very positive light on his personal life and his testimony.

Maybe I'll hold off on it for a while, but I'll just tell you all, Mr. Osteen is not what he seems to be.

Like father, like son. His daddy preached word faith garbage and so does he. I won't listen to a word anybody says who's lumped in with the likes of Hinn,Meirs,Jakes,Pitts,Hill,Brown, or anyone else who endorses Charisma magazine.

Acts 5-35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.
37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

Keep attacking what could be more of Gods people at your own peril.

    Peace,

    Tam

    Tam,

I appreciate the fact that you want to have scriptural support, but your use is superficial. The statement in Acts 5 by an unbelieving Pharisee who was warning against killing the apostles, not speaking against them. After Gamaliel made his warning, verse 40 states that "they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go." Notice, the Jews agreed with Gamaliel and then beat the apostles and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus. Gamaliel did not, as you infer, warn against exposing what was in his mind false teaching or standing against the apostles.

On the other hand, much Scripture commands believers to check out the doctrine of teachers to see if it is of God, that is, if it is biblical. For instance, 2 Timothy 3:1-9:

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.

Also, as a minister of the gospel, I am commanded to watch and warn against false teachers and their teaching. Remember Paul's words to the Ephesian elders in Acts 20:28-31: "Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears."

Osteen attracts those whose lives are consumed with their material and psychological well being. He is a false teacher, and only the lost and superficial believers lacking in discernment follow him.

    Blessings,
    Bill

Osteen is an indicator that the God of Heaven and Eternity has people that want to follow Godly leaders.

That Osteen could do a better job of leadership is a different story ...

I quit listening to him after he said that God's hands are tied and it is up to us to loose Him.

    Disgusting!
