What do you think of Joel Osteen? I used to like him. Then I listened to what he was doing. I waited about 15 minutes before I heard a scripture. It's crazy. How are people going to realize that they are sinners that need to be saved? I would, personally, be ok with it if it was just a tv program or he did what he does just every once in a while. There is a definite place for it. The problem I have is the people that attand his church. It becomes a problem when that is ALL you get.

They won't, unless the Holy Spirit reveals it to them. If He is lifted up, He will draw all men unto Himself. I pray that Joel will one day realize the vast platform he has, and use it for the Lord and not just himself.

Didn't Joel inherit his congregation from his father and isn't he a Word Faith heretic or have I got names mixed up?

    yes and yes
His dad used to be United Pentecostal but changed his tune to get more members. At least that is what my daughter's preacher said who was a friend of his at the time. Her Pastor said the father sold out for more people. Me I believe in the Trinity and always have.

I try to not think of him.

He is a feel good, warm and fuzzy motivational speaker. He makes people feel good with his communication skills

He is NOT a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Joel's mother, Dodie Osteen, said on TV that Joel didn't like to tell people they are sinners. Gee, a preacher who preaches he gospel has to preach the law at some point. People can't be saved until they know they're lost. Joel does neither.

    He is a motivational speaker.

He does have WofF written all over his messages IMHO. My husband got one of his books for Christmas. I just started flipping through and was amazed at how little it said except think good, feel good, expect good things to happen. I wonder if he's read Job.

For the first year in Houston I attended Lakewood Church. I was a fairly new Christian at the time and did know if what he was teaching was bad or not. Now I know better and I agree with the above statement 100%. He gives a sermon on motivation and then at the end he gives the call to the gospel. They don't really tie well together. A know a lot of people who will not attend church on sunday but will watch him on tv. Most people just want someone to make them feel better, he brings that for them.

    GB,

Your right. Years and years ago way back when Joel's daddy was first called into the ministry he was a southern baptist.
I heard that on a tv documentary that I believe was put out by Lakewood Church itself.
