We are used to thinking of these words of Christ as metaphor, but it could be argued that the real metaphors are the physical grapevines, created by God, along with other metaphors in nature to point to the higher plane of spiritual reality. In other words, Christ truly is our Vine. We get our life from Him and in Him. Grapevines were created, ultimately, as object lessons for spiritual truth for those with hearts to understand.
