    I have a few

If you are interested in studying Calvins views, they are indespensible. If your purpose is Scripture study, Macarthurs Commentaries can't be beat.

This is not a criticism of Calvin, I just find Macarthur's better organized and to the point.

John Calvin is one of the finest exegetes that Christianity has ever produced, and I never find reading his commentaries to be anything but profitable. Even his theological opponent, Jacob Arminius, had many complimentary things to say about Calvin's skill at interpreting the Bible.

That being said, keep in mind that Calvin's works are nearly 500 years old and thus off the mark in many places; for example, today the dating of the Pauline epistles is based on some very different assumptions about the ancient world than were assumed in Calvin's day. That being said, the devotional quality of his work is top-shelf. Just don't read it uncritically.

    Andy,

Please allow me to save you some money. Unless you are doing this for academic purposes, if you are talking about Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion, you can read it online for free here.

I recently ordered his devotional commentary on the Psalms. I didnt even know there was such a thing and I'm eagerly waiting for it. I already have Spurgeons Treasury of David and it is great! Anything by Calvin or Spurgeon is pure gold!

I am also enjoying reading John Owen's Book, "Of the Mortification of Sin in the Believers" here.

I am also enjoying the classic sermon of the Great Awakening "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" by Jonathon Edwards here.

Calvin is one of the better excegetes out there. His commentaries and his Institutes will give you better insight into what he ACTUALLY believed than you will get from most people.

Some books of the Bible were covered lightly.

But, his work is solid & long. And that was without cut and paste . . .

Thank you Mr. Joseph, your the man! :)

Really, these links will prove invaluable, atleast to give me a taste of what I am going to get.

For some reason, I seem to study much better away from the computer, so I will be planning on ordering this set of books.

You know, I havnt even considered buying McArthur's commentary, mainly because that is a name I am not too familiar with... From what I've read about it, it seems to be the best commentary on the market.

Thank you for the reviews. I highly appreciate it! :)

P.S. I have also been checking out the treasury of David by Charles Spurgeon, but it seems alittle intimidating, considering its a THREE VOLUME BOOK!

    God Bless,
    ANdy

NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Jesus Christ is Da Man. I am merely a lost sinner who was saved by his sovereign grace and who is being used to do his will.

    Humble, I like that.

You have any links to G Cambell Morgan? I don't know what all he published but I like his commentary.
