Our U.S position mirrors that of Canada 100% as far as Volunteer Firefighters go.

In my district (and most Volunteer districts) if a fire breaks out between 8am to 5pm you'll get a 20min+ response time with just a handful of firefighters.

That’s good cuz after 5pm you can find them at the bar … that’s their rep … well known as the drunks of the county.

I do not know if misguided forest management has created worse fire hazards than in the past, but it seems forest fires have become unmanageable. I do not think we have the best range of aerial water dropping aircraft, but rather some sort of army surplus hand-downs. Perhaps we need three or four times the number of water-droppers and the ability to convert temporarily military aircraft into water droppers at short notice, such a prearranged tank and scoop mechanisms that could be quick-connected and disconnected.
