I was reading today in John, and noticed that Jesus asked the disciple to take his mom home. Was Joseph dead at the time of the crucifixion. III

There's absolutely no mention of Joseph past Jesus' teen years. The assumption is that he died before Jesus began his ministry.

Most likely. By all accounts, Joseph was around the age of 18 when Christ was born, that would put him right around 50 or so at the point of the crucifixion. And that's a ripe old age at a time when life expectancy was roughly 40. So, yes, it's entirely feasible and likely Joseph was dead. Hope that helps some. [IMG]

We have no idea how old Joseph was, and we can only assume he had died sometime after Jesus was 12. That would explain why he is never mentioned again.

Jesus was the first born, so Mary was His responasability, yet im surprised that it was not passed on to one of His younger brothers.

Been to the region at Ephesus where Mary later lived with her adopted "son", John, well after 70 AD.

It is assumed that Mary was young (14-15) when espoused to Joseph. He would have been older, with a home and business of his own. Probably 30+ at the birth of Jesus.

RC teaches that Joseph was a widower, with children of his own by a first wife. (That way Mary could remain a perpetual virgin, a recent addition to Catholic teaching).

More likely, by time of the cross (32 AD) Joseph would have been 60-70+ or, more likely, dead. Mary lived into her 90's!!

Huh? Why do you say that? At the time of Jesus' crucifixion, Mary was probably in her late 40's, an elderly age at that time.

Well I always assumed she lived long enough to be interviewed by Luke . . .

Luke makes no mention of having met her. I think the greater likelihood is that he compiled his Gospel from other writings (such as the Gospel of Mark and quell), which, being an early Christian, he would have had access to.
