Jupiter Has New Red Spot

A new storm, half as large as the famous Great Red Spot, has formed on Jupiter. The storm formed a few years ago through the merger of smaller storms and it has now turned red.

OH so what we're really seeing is the slow outbreak of measles on Jupiter!

I wonder what makes them red? I read something that hypothesized it is chemicals from the lower atmosphere that undergo some type of reaction and turn red when they are churned up into the higher atmosphere. It's amazing how Jupiter is so close relatively speaking and still there is a lot we do not know.
