Kaolin clay

Kaolin clay is the kao which was once used in the over-the-counter medication "Kaopectate". I know that "Kaopectate" is not as good as it once was but did not know why until a doctor explained it to my wife. The doctor was a pain specialist and mentioned to her that she might want to get some kaolin clay to take as part of a regimen to counter the adverse effects of some of the medication she was taking.

My wife was told that the FDA was urged by the Kaopectate company's competing pharmaceutical firms to pressure them into removing the kaolin clay from Kaopectate. The doc said that kaolin clay has healing and regenerative qualities and he takes 1/2 teaspoon mixed with juice daily as part of his own regimen.

We do have some which we bought on line and use it on occasion. Has anyone else out there ever heard of it or tried it? BTW it comes in powder form.

When my wife first opened her clinic in 93 she had a few people use this clay internally. Caused some horrific problems in digestion and bowels and within 6 months we dropped it from our shelves.

Misuse is problematic - for some even a tiny bit was enough to harm. Be very careful

Gracias, Dr. Bob. Not exactly a good report. In checking on the product, I couldn't help but notice that it is still used in veterinary meds for livestock and swine.

When I first started nursing kaolin clay was used in poultices....as you would expect when heated it holds heat well. We NEVER actually used poultices but we still learned about them....

Kaolin clay is used in cosmetics I believe, and I looked to buy some for my "Ladies Pulv" but found it very expensive so that was that. I cannot imagine why anyone would ingest clay as Dr. Bob states...it would have a impressively binding action. Of course, there is also the interestingly strange disorder called "pica".

Oh incidentally the ladies pulv. is smelly body powder that women adore....lavender, rose etc., I also have a wonderful spicy one that I call Mrs Murdles Peculiar.
