I personally have no problem with him taking his oath on the quran. After all, he is Muslim.
I figure if the United States was a Muslim nation and somebody was elected who was from Christendom he/she would want to take the oath of allegiance on the Bible, right ?
I don't think his holding the quran as a higher authority over the constitution is strange, either.
Christians hold the Bible of higher authority than the constitution, too.
Now, the patriot part.......now, well....I figure that's where we ought to be a little more leery.....after all, his alleged associates aren't exactly the "nice guys". I'd watch him, and take what he says with a bucketful of salt, if those are the guys he associates with...

Agreed. Those who oppose Ellison because he holds the Quran higher in authority than the US Consititution should be consistent also oppose Christian politicians who hold the Bible with higher authority than the US Constitution.

If we did, would you oppose them?

GD, you made a blanket statement. I'm asking you to furnish names to prove your statement is true.

My statement was that if one opposes Muslim policians for X, they should be consistent and oppose Christian policitians for X.

This is true whether there are Christian politicians who hold to X or not.

So before I go an put effort into finding Christian politicans who believe X, I wish to know whether you will be consistent or not with your statements. I'm sure I'll have no trouble finding Christian politicians in the US who believe that the bible is a higher authority than the US. Constitution. The hard part will be finding a quote to that effect.

Now is it worth my effort or are you going to admit you should have rephrased your thread title?

The article didn't say that Ellison held the Koran over the Constitution, but that he had ties to those who did. Well, yeah, he's a Muslim and he has ties to other Muslims. The article accuses him specifically that he gave a workshop to some who were "affiliated" with a "school of thought".

What a tempest in a teapot!

I've met more than one Canadian who was able to discern hypocrisy when he smelt it.

    There certainly is.

The Bible is the word of God.

The koran is the word of a phony prophet representing a false and murderous god.

    Exactly ^^^

Yep, thing is, never said a Canadian couldn't detect hypocrisy, just couldn't and shouldn't dictate American policy.

I didn't realize posting my opinions on BB was tantamount to dictating American policy. Wow, who knew we had so much pull around here. ;)

    Or trying to.

SRSLY? Then what's your point? Why aren't you more worried about YOUR country? There's the "Harper problem".

I'll try again: Christian does NOT equal Muslim, it'd have to in order for your premise to be true in America.

    God Bless.

If I wanted to impact american policy, I wouldn't be posting here. :)
My point is that my fellow Baptists have double standards and as a follower of the God of justice, I guess I don't like it when I see injustice from my fellow brothers and sisters.
My post in this thread wasn't about countries or politics. It was about Christians being just.
I am worried about my country and I do keep tabs on things happening in Canada. I usually chime in on threads about Canada. Although I am currently planning a move to Australia so local politics has not been high on my priority list lately, like the municipal election last month where I didn't even know who the candidates were.
I voted for Harper so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Of course Christian does not equal Muslim.

But a person who is consistent with their opposition to a Muslim politician holding the Quran over the US Constitution should also be opposed to a Christian politician holding the Bible over the US Constitution.

So I can assume you just want to complain about it?

And exactly WHAT is the double-standard? What would be an injustice is for us to throw Elison in jail, not to question his behaviour.

Again, Elison's been treated fairly, he's not above criticism just because he claims to be some fake Muslim.

Good luck with the move to Australia - like Canada, the immigration policy's different from ours in both countries. Was that put tolerantely enough?

Oh, Not LP after all. Then there IS no problem.

"Should also" is the problem here.

Fine, you want to morally equivocate some more? What if he wanted to be sworn in under a copy of Mein Kampf instead? You down with that?
