Kirby's Vacumes

I had one salesman stop at my house several years ago. Was VERY very pushy to the point of being a little rude. I didn't buy, but the vacuum he was trying to sell was like $1500 and that was in the mid 1990s. I bought a dyson for $300 about 7-8 years ago and have been very pleased with it and it's still going strong.

 

My MIL bought a Kirby---later on a Kirby sales lady went over and was able to talk MIL into buying another one and she gave us the old one----it worked for about a yr and then all of a sudden---the motor burned up---Imagine that?????

To replace the motor costs as much as a brand spankin' new cleaner

So I went to the local Thrift Store----and purchased a used Eureka upright---for $5.95-----took it home---replaced the drive belt for $2.00------where on earth can you buy a vacuum for $7.95 and it gets the carpet clean enough we wouldn't mind if the Governor came to visit!!! Its that clean!!!

 

Our Kirby is 20 years old and going strong. It came with all the whiz-bang attachments and with the exception of the hose, a crevice tool and a small brush haven't used any of the other pieces. It was listed at $1200 but we paid around $600. We've replaced a million belts and bags but it has been trouble free. It weighs a ton but madre insists that keeps her from getting hangy-down flabbies (you know that part of the arm where the tricep used to go?).

I almost forgot. You can put the hose on the exhaust port and use it to blow up mattresses, toys and such.

I'm not very keen on the selling techniques but really like the product.

 

Look bro, you can fail and make no money where you are now "selling" kirbys, so there is no need to move to Arkansas and prove you can do it there as well.

The last time I had an incident with a kirby salesman, I asked him to leave, and he told me he'd be awhile. Let's just say he left about 12 seconds later.

If you think you can sell, go sell cars. I averaged 8k per month doing it in my "former" life.

Applied to one of their distributors out of high school. After watching the spiel from Captain Kirk we were told if we were serious to stay, if not...leave. Well, 10 of us left and 2 stayed. One I knew. He sold his first vacuum, made $400 in less than a week and thought he struck gold. Well, he ended up selling 4 or 5 more and never got a dime, always some excuse.thats why they are always hiring. The figure if they pay 400 for each 5+ sold they are doing great. Run dont walk...

...I love my Oreck. And I didn't have to have someone come to my house and try to sell me something that cost as much as a cheap used car. :laugh:

 

Out of curiosity brother, Ive been trying to understand your signatures commentary.....what do you mean by Comfort Books?

 

"Comfort Books" are probably books by Ray Comfort, the founder of the Way of the Master.

 

Aren't Kirby vacuums sold on commission with a minimum price structure? That is, they start out at a ridiculously high price, like $1,500 and the salesperson continues adjusting the price down until the consumer's sweet spot is found and the sale made?

In other words, the price could start out at $1,500 and end up at $400?

If so, ya gotta wonder about that sort of business model.

 

Kirby has been around for 75 or 100 years so they must be doing something right. If a person has a sales personality they can sell anything. If not, you are spinning your wheels.

 

Then if thats the case, come over to my house. Ive been selling for over 30 years....... The guy will end up paying me to take it so he doesn't have to schlep it home. Now thats value!!! :laugh:
