Ed Edwards would probably sum this question up the best, so hopefully he'll put something here soon.

The 1611 KJV Bible you have, published by Hendrickson (2003) and older 'reprints' by Thomas Nelson (1990's), are different than the KJV Bibles that are regularly in print today. Many are of the editions that came out in the 1760's by either Oxford or Cambridge.

 

It is pretty cool. Let us know when you have read it from cover to cover.

Sorry, I misunderstood your first question.

While I was in seminary, there was a 1611 KJV Bible in the library, although it was the Roman font Bible printed in 1612. That Bible was in a locked case which had windows built in it. That's the closest I ever got to a 1611 KJV!

 

I had a 1612 printing and sold it. My best Bible now is a very large German Luther Bible printed in 1728. I collect old Bibles -- bought many on ebay before people realized they were worth money. I bought a lot of individual pages too. I have a lot of 1611 printed pages and 1580 printed Geneva and Bishop's Bible printed pages. I have about thirty 1800 Bible's printed before the civil war.

You want to know the interesting part. EVERY SINGLE KJV that I have printed from 1850 back contains the Apocrypha with no indication that it is not part of the scriptures.

Oh, and I do have the 1611 copy of the Hendrickson. I like it because it uses New Times Roman print instead of old print style. I have read almost through it. It is really quite easy to read once you read a chapter or two to get used to it. Most of my old Bibles are difficult to read due to the fine print. Many are study Bibles with lots of commentary taking up space (believe it or not). Didn't know they did that in the 1700's did 'ja?

 

Far as I know, the Hendrickson reprint is an accurate repro of the AV 1611 after the printer's errors were corrected.

I still smile at those who have "AV 1611" in their handles while they quote Scriptures from the 1769 edition. They just won't admit the 1611 & 1769 are different. I believe there's a member of this board presently counting and cataloguing all the differences between those editions.

 

I think it's Logos 1560, he had written an interesting article refuting Waite's counting and his minimizing the differences between the 1611 and the 1769. (again, what 'happened' to those jots and tittles from the 1611 to the 1769? where are they? )

 

The American Bible Society did print a large number of KJV's in the early 1800's that did not include the Apocrypha. This Society had the good
intention of getting a Bible into the hands of as many Americans as possible so they printed them as cheaply as possible.

Indirectly, this goal of the ABS may have contributed to other Bible publishers going to the other extreme. Most other Bible publishers of the 1800's printed KJV's with more study notes, more illustrations, more elaborate, and
usually with the Apocrypha.

The first KJV edition printed in America in 1782 edited by Robert Aitken does not seem to have been based on the 1762/1769 KJV text. Thus,
it has some renderings in agreement with the 1611 and other before 1769 editions. This 1782 edition
started a trend of some updating of spelling in
American editions.

I have also found that some KJV editions in the early 1800's printed in American do not have
all the changes or corrections that were made in
the 1769. Likely, the editor and printer did not
notice all of them.

 

Has anyone ever found a website with a download'able KJV 1611?

I know there is a demand but I've never found one.

Looks like I have that same reprint of the original, printed by Hendrickson in Oct. 2003.

I also have a photographic reproduction of a 1611 New Testament printed by Lifeline Philippines, and I'm not finding a date of when it was printed.

before he quit posting here

I could afford to be altruistic i had a
KJV1611 edition by Nelson.

Yes and no. U. of Pennsylvania has a text project called the Schoenberg Center for Electronic Text & Image that contains digital images of many old works. As it happens, these include the 1611 AV.

It's not downloadable (unless, I suppose, you were masochistic and wanted to save each image individually), but you can zoom right in and examine the pages closely. This is a really neat resource, of the kind that was promised back when the Web was first invented.

 

I just wanna ask if the KJV1611 has a totally different with the new printed one?? with the number of books and verses?I mean my bible is KJV which is regularly printed today..

 

There are several differences betweent he KJV1611 and the more modern editions of the KJV. For example, the KJV1611 included the Apocrypha.
