Kmart Files for Bankruptcy

I hate Kmart, and only go in there when I have too.
You can never find an employee, if you need help you have to go all the way up front and ask for it and hope they send someone. They almost never answer those little call boxes in each area that is supose to signal a customer needs help.
They won't give cash refunds, when cash is what I paid with, they give a little card now, thats if you can get them to take a return. If they sell you something faulty, they think they aren't responsable. Tough luck for you.
And they are a whole lot more then fifty cents higher. I once went in looking for something I though was too much at Wal MArt, and it was $10. more at Kmart. It was only $6.97 at WalMArt. I went back to WalMArt. They never have anything I need, unless I want to pay lots more for it, when you live on a budget, you can't afford to pay more when cheaper is just down the road.
And they charge for layaway. Noone else here does.
Our local Kmart is almost always empty, never more then 10 or 20 customers at one time, and fewer employees.
In my opinion, no big loss.

 

I really do not like K-Mart either! Everytime I have gone in there they would have extremely long lines and one cashier on duty. They were alright until they became Big-K and after that they went down hill. Recently, they installed those automatic U-scan machines so customers can ring themselves out. The bad part is that they had all the regular cash registers closed down with one person who showed the customer (one order at a time) how to use the new & improved system. We didn't even have the option to use a live cashier. Meijer's or even Target is much cheaper and you can get in and out faster.

Hey, they're going out of business....I've become a new fan of K-mart, lol! Where else can you get kids outfits for $2.00 right now? Got a $40 dollar dress for a friend for $3.00.
I'm waiting on the coffee pots and telescopes to go now....once I get the telescope you'll see a lot less of me.

As far as i know our K MArt hasn't maked stuff down. I'm going to town today, might stop in and see. It would be the first time I was anxious to go to K Mart.

I noticed James2 edited out his remarks, which I was replying to in my previous post, makes me liik foolish now.
Wonder if he posted on the ethical editing thread.

 

And this has to do with being a Baptist or a Christian, how????

 

The answer is simple kwob02! It has to do something with being good stewards with the moneys God has entrusted us - as in Matthew 25:14-29!

Gee, and I thought it would be nice to shop at K-Mart -- just because they were like a Samaritan in need.

I had a couple of bad experiences at Wal-Mart too. They are too money grubby.

 

I like K-Mart. It is the cleanest retail store in Corsicana. Pity about the poor service though. It really has so much potential and its owners are really letting it go to waste.

 

Having been in retail managment for 15 years I will address a couple of the things said here.

This shows the biggest problem in retail, the lack of knowledgable service oriented staff. Believe it or not profit margins in retail are fairly low especially at a discount store such as K-mart or Walmart. When a store gets into financial trouble they look to cut costs and the most controlable cost is payroll. You can't control your electric bill, rent, wholesale cost of the merchandise,etc., but you can completlly control your payroll. Unfourtunatly all this does is tick off the customer and make them go somewhere else to make their purchase.

Stores that maintain an acceptable level of staffing, and pay their employees a little more tend to offer better service and will attract more customers. In the short run this may translate into higher prices, but in the long run the increased sales will offset the additional cost and prices can actually fall, i.e. Walmart.

Not all K-marts are marking things down and closing. They are closing underperforming stores. I forget the exact number of stores they are closing. As an example there are currently 4 K-marts in Rockford and they are closing one of them. Markdowns are only being taken at the 1 store that is closing. This is a very common situation when retailers file for chapter 11. For those that don't know, when a company files for chapter 11 it is not closing its doors, it is reorginizing its structue and finances under the supervision of the bankurpcy court.
