Why is it, that when someone reads the ingredients, and people label accordingly, the labeled person takes offense?

Probably because the labeler assumes he knows the ingredients, but he doesn't.

I think it's because the offended assumes he knows the ingredients, but he doesn't.

    Justified,

If you're referring to the folks who take umbrage when you call them a "liberal" (I'm not among them incidentally), it probably has something to do with the fact that in the larger baptist world they are not considered anything close to liberal.

In addition, when you call someone a liberal or talk about "liberals" in general; you generally tack on a number of outlandish assertions about what liberalism means. That tends to annoy people.

You may well think you know the ingredients but what is the recipe and where are you getting the menu?... Who is the authority on the finished dish?... If you made it... Its yours!... If you didn't be careful because you are not as far as you think from the label!... Brother Glen

A label is often a pre-conceived idea regarding what a person believes. It is usually based on a very small percentage of the "labeler's" knowledge about the "labelee."

I personally don't like the label "KJVO" because it has come to be a derogatory label on the BB. I don't mind the label "conservative" because I would consider myself conservative. I don't even mind "Ultra-conservative" because that is going higher yet.

I don't like the labels "legalist" because I've never been labeled as such by anyone who knew what legalism meant.

The only label I hope to have stuck on me is "Good and faithful servant."

When the label is designed to show contempt for the labelee, then they should have a right to be upset.

For example, Bigots have no problem labeling others and further can't understand why anyone would object, after all bigots are better than everyone else... The lucky choosen ones... Usually by God.

Libeling is more common than labeling on almost every internet setting. It is simply easier to attact persons (ad hominem) than to attack issues.

Personally, I enjoy BOTH!

Answer your own question. Why does Justified get upset when labeled a Legalist?

Probably because the labeler assumes he knows the ingredients, but he doesn't.</font>
I said reads and/or that person tells you what they believe, and thus recieves a label for the way they believe. [IMG]

So, why should you be offended by your position of beliefs and thus be labeled accordingly! [IMG]

    </font>
Okay... We will see if you have been paying attention.

What is my label and on what basis do you assign it to me? Be specific about my doctrinal positions.

I don't have enough proof to say what your doctrinal stand is but as to your label, I propose Baptist Board police or buttinsky for short.
