I like to say that the Orthodox Church is a branch of the One, Holy Apostolic Church.
A few years ago I went back into the Ante-Nicene Fathers and researched the use of "catholic" every single time it was used to see if it had originated with a different meaning than used by Rome today.
I found out that it did. Individual churches claimed to be the "Catholic" church in contrast to those they regarded as apostate. Obviously their single church was not "universal" but it was first used to identify themselves with what was regarded "the faith" or doctrine and practice which was regarded as authentic apostolic and recognized as such by all they conceived to be true churches. It did not begin as a title but rather as a description of orthodoxy.
I'm sure there are Elitist Orthodox, and Catholics like the group Pius X which Mel Gibson is a part, etc... its not relegated to one Christian sect.
But they are itty-bitty in comparison to orthodox catholicism. The fact is that there are more and more splinters in protestantism all the time. All claiming to be 'bible-alone' believing churches. I'll bet the church in the OP is 'bible-alone'.
