I recently was given a link to this site and quite frankly was more than a little taken aback by the content. Yet what concerns me is that when I went to their letters page where people write into them, there were a heap of letters there from Christians condemning the site which is fair enough, yet there were many there using words that would have you suspended immediantly from the Baptist Board.

Are the letters real is what I am wondering, or are they deliberatly falsified to make Christians look bad?

In any event, I think it would be a good thing if that site did not exist, yet is there a way that people online can be warned about them that they are not actually a church and are run by athiests that like mocking God?

I think you have a valid question, Ben.

I bet most if not all of the letters you saw are as fake as the website is. Perhaps the only way to counteract that site would be to make one of your own with Landover in the name....."Landover Answered" or "The Real Landover Baptist".

That way when people search for Landover they get your site as well as theirs.

Ben, I saw this site mentioned a few years ago on the Baptist Board and took a look at it back then. One would do well to figure that EVERYTHING on the site is fake. The intent is definitely to make Christians (I guess especially Baptists) look bad.

    Ben,

I am quite familiar with the site. I believe the letters are falsified in that they actually edit them to make the Christians look horrible.

While I would guess that Joseph is right and that they have edited these letters, there still are some who claim to be Christians in this world whose actions and words do more harm to the cause of Christ than good. I was watching "Trading Spouses" the other night and saw a woman who was claiming to be a Christian screaming curse words "in Jesus name".

Usually I tell Christians to pray and turn a blind ear, but given everything, justified in this situation. If a Christian put up a similiar sight about anyone of another faith, they would be accused of hate crimes and fined or jailed.

One reason that Christianity has become the "whipping-boy" for the world is because they know that no matter how much they try to hurt us we will never take legal action beyond that which allows us to continue to exercise freedom of religion. We will not ask that inaccurate, rude, mean spirited hate stop.

We should not be surpised when the world mocks. They did the same to our Saviour.

" go ahead, drive the nails in my hand, laugh at me where you stand, go ahead, and say it isn't me, the day will come, when you will see, cause I'll rise agian, there's no power on earth that can tie me down, yes I'll rise again, death can't keep me in the ground.

go ahead, mock my name, my love for you is still the same, go ahead, and bury me, and very soon I will be free, cause I'll rise agian, there's no power on earth that can tie me down, yes I'll rise again, death can't keep me in the ground.

Go ahead, and say i'm dead and gone, but you will see that your were wrong, go ahead, try to hide the son, but all will see that I'm the one, cause I'll come again, there isn't' any power on can keep me back, yes I'll come again, come to take my people back." --- I'll rise again, by Dallas Holmes

I think they probably are real. Part of the fun of making a site like that is getting real flame-mail, after all. If you read the emails some of the hate mail is from supposed Christians, but some is from supposed non-Christians who think the site is real.

Saw the trading spouse episode also. The commercials for it kind of piqued my interest, They couldnt have chosen a worse representative for Christ than this screaming banshee. They usually try to pit exact opposites on this show. The other woman was "new agey" and was made to look like a victim of the other womans "christian" friends interrogations about her beliefs. I believe they are going to repeat this episode this week if you want a real treat.

The first time I stumbled onto Landover's site was in 2000 or 2001 when I was searching for the words "fundamental, baptist, KJVO"

It doesn't pop up now on the first screen, but back then it did.
(Of course now when I google those words, a link to baptistboard pops up first)
I first thought it was real, then read on and realized it wasn't.

When I first joined baptistboard, in an attempt to be funny, I listed my home church as LandoverBaptist.

It was a completely different site then.

Back then, it was still offensive, but offensive in that way that all good satire is offensive, not just offensive for the sake of being mean spirited.

Back then, they used humor to bring up some really important points about things that were going on in the church.

Now, it seems like they just want to be as mean and disrespectful as they can.

That's not satire, that's just childishness.

I used to wish that the old Landover Baptist would come back. Now, I just wish they'd go away all together.

    ummm, JGrubbs,

first you get a clue as to her form of Christianity just by the fact that she'd appear on such a show at all.

Landover Baptist Church is a satire. You have to look closely within its pages, but it freely admits to being a satire on its disclaimer page.

Having said that I do not consider it to be funny at all.

More than likely a disgruntal person who was brought up in a very rigid legalistic Baptist church....now he is getting back at that institution.

I would compare it to rockers like Marlyn Manson and Alice Cooper who were brought up in strick Christian homes and rebeled.

Pretty sick site if you ask me

It IS a fake, pure satire aimed at goofy "religious" fanatics. I hope no one takes it seriously. Please be sure to read the disclaimer page.
