law/love

I liked it. It reminded me of a quote about parenting. It said something to the effect that you can almost get away with any reasonable method of disciplining you children if they know you love them unconditionally. Point being, the law (discipline) is made perfect through unconditional love.

Secondly, when I compare my relationship with my own father there are many correlations. I used to obey my father's wishes out of fear of punishment or in expectation of an allowance. Now that I'm older I don't fear his punishment or look for pay, but I still want to do as he asks. Why? The relationship started with fear and has moved into friendship. From religion to relationship. John 15:15 speaks of this very transition as we move from master/servant to father/son or friend with God.

So, law certainly has it's place, but without love it will leave you dry and dead inside.

A much needed message for the church today as I think we mostly have left our first love and become lukewarm. A true believer loves the law of God and seeks to keep.

believer in jesus rests in the work He did on our behalf at the Cross, sabbath rest of Hebrews, and will be living out their life in power and person of the HS, THAT "keeps" the Law!

As jesus fulfiled completely obligations of the law for us, why go back on that yoke of bondage when we have now HS of Grace?

Your assumption and statements are only partly correct. When using the term law I am afraid it can be far to encompassing. While we are not under the condemnation of the law we are still obligated to keep the commandments and we will if we are saved. While they do not save or keep one saved they do show forth who one is united to.

God's standards are not set aside because of the work of Christ, but instead they are magnified in the life of the true believer. For the believer, because of the new man, the commands have become our delight to obey and if we fail our hearts are sorrowed. So as Christians we are not under any bondage as were those of the OT. We are free to obey the commandments in spirit and in truth and they are a delight to the converted soul.

:applause:Yes....right on the money....many christians panic at the mention of law keeping of any kind....

JF....what FAL is telling you is that the indwelling Holy Spirit leads a believer back to specific duties that were spoken in direct commands of His word.
God takes care of the orphan and widow and poor....through law keeping of believers...by direct command or by principle.
8Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

As long as you realise that ALL of our relationship with God is to be based upon grace, by new Covenant in his blood, and NOT by Law at all...

We live for God by person/power of the HS in us, and he allows us to keep the law in His strenght...

Our new nature will be set to follow ways of God, its just NOT how our relationship with Him now is based!

Our relationship is by grace. I assume since you say the law has nothing to do with our relationship do you agree that we cannot lose fellowship with God by sinning as our relationship is based on grace and not law correct?

We can and will never lose relationship, but can lose fellowship in the sense that unconfessed/unrepented sinning "jams" us from experiencing the fullness of our walk with God, our fellowship with him!

How can we lose fellowship because according to you it is all grace?

need to keep the greatest commandments, to Love the lord and to love others with his Love in /thru us, that will allow us to fulfill the law as He meant it to be!

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
