Leinart's Eligibility Reinstated After NCAA Violation

Wasn't going to happen. USC is the fair-haired child right now. And for the record, two years ago the national champion was LSU. USC is not playing for their third straight, only the second.

 

You are both right. Ken is right about the "mythical" national champion, of which LSU as voted as having half of it, and guitar preacher is right in that because this was Matt Leinart, the NCAA rolled over. I hang around college athletes a bit (did Tues nite after Tennessee stomped Alabama A&M). You can't buy these guys a coke because it's an NCAA infraction, and there are people watching every move you make. Are we honestly supposed to believe this (as one USC administrator put it) "slipped through the cracks"??? I've seen UT players hand back Sharpies at autograph sessions because they're afraid that if they keep them, it's an illegal gift from a booster.

 

Nope, you are wrong. We have this ridiculous thing called a BCS that takes what are supposed to be the two best teams and matches them in a National Championship game. USC did not play in that game. LSU beat OU in the NC game, therefore they are the 2004 National Champions, period.

USC finished first in the Final AP poll, and that's why they claim to be co-champions, but that's a farce. You can argue that USC was the best team that year and should have played in the title game, but whatever they base the BSC rankings on, they finished 3rd. The BCS did away with "mythical" championships. LSU was the national champion.

 

I don't think all the BCS national champs are mythical. You have to go by the rules that are in place. Kinda hard to argue with Tennessee and Ohio State who went 13-0 and 14-0 respectively to win their national titles. But a playoff would be preferable without question. But we're getting off topic.
