Yesterday when I left for church I kept thinking "Mercy that rain sure does hurt!", hehe I said as much to my grandpa, who shook his head and told me it was sleet.
Well by the time I got home from church it had sleeted so much that my yard looked like it had snowed.
I went with my dad and stepmom to her parents for dinner, and we tried leaving there, I fellon the frozen stuff in the drive way and ended up in a puddle of water. (My soul that wasn't pleasent!) by the time we were on the road, it was awful! The roads were freezing, and we were the only car on the road for several miles. Daddy's scanner kept picking up dispatchers sending out people to attend wrecks. When we made it home, pastor called to say we weren't having eveing services (I almost cried at that!) and they'd canceled school for today, and tommorrow. We havn't even tried leaving the house today.
Do any of ya'll live in areas that get a good amount of snow and ice? We don't see much of it here, and when we do, most people get all excited and panicked in my town. I mean they delayed school a week or two ago because they were CALLING for snow. Needless to say it really didn't do anything! I almost don't know what to think with all this ice outside! I mean I'm scared to evem go out, because I'm just sure I'll fall and hurt myself!
Those of you that do see a lot of winter weather, do ya just get used to it?

When I woke up this morning to go to work, it was -25F (and with the windchill factor, it bounced between -50F and -58F). I had to sweep about 5 inches of snow off my car, and drive over 30 miles on icy highways to work. I had to scrape ice off the *inside* of my car windows as I went so I could see where I was going. And all the schools were open. [IMG] If we closed the schools or the roads because of snow, well, we wouldn't even bother making schools or roads in the first place. [IMG] Yes, we get used to it, I guess - but that doesn't mean I have to like it. [IMG]

Today wasn't typical though, it's one of our colder snaps. Normally this time of year we're around the 0F mark.

    It's snowing and icing here!
We haven't had school, at all, this week and
we had two snow days last week. Our church doesn't cancel unless we're on a level 3 snow emergency, like last year. Right now we're on a 2. It's not as cold here. It's only -3 to 11 degrees during the week.LOL [IMG]

We've gotten a fair amount of snow and ice for the last two years. Sometimes we'll go 5 or 6 years without a good snow, sometimes it's like this!

In Fluvanna County, our school board wants us to make up EVERY day, no matter what. Last year we went 60 days straight (barring weekends, of course), and that could have been really rough on the students. Somehow it all worked out.

We've already added 5 days onto the end of the year, and there's already forecasts for more snow and ice. Wonder if we'll get the 4th of July off...

Well Granny Pat, when you get the chance send me one back. We're having a stamp famine at this house of mine, and I'm watching a stack of letters stedily grow larger! Hehe, as soon as I get into town to get some stamps, I'll get another one off to ya. :D
We've missed three days last week with all that ice. Praise God it's gone now, and I surely hope it don't come back. I love cold weather, hardly ever wear a coat, but ice and snow is a little much! (Brian, - fifty eight?! My soul that's COLD!) LOL the school board said if we missed anymore we'd make em up at the end of the school year! We already are going longer this year because we started late. I'm not thrilled about the idea of school at the middle or end of June!
The worst part isn't missing the days, but for me, it's waling across my yard without breaking or bruising anything!
Hehe, maybe I could move to Florida? :D

 I wish that the ice and snow would go away.
Before I didn't mind it, until last night.
We where coming home from church, my dad went out to get coffee with some of the men at our church, so my mom, sister, and I started to head home. Then the nightmare started, we where half
way home and we hit a patch of ice, and the car went out of control. Then my mom decided to go on the left side of the road hoping that there wasn't any ice there, which there was a little bit. So my mom started to gain control, again, and moved back on the right side and then we started to fish tale even more. Then we missed two trees and a mailbox but then we hit a brick house.
Thankfully no one in the car was badly hurt, just bruises and cuts. :D

    Thank you Lord! [IMG]
