Let's HANG Mel Gibson!

Charles:

They'll know we are Christians by our love - not by our love of judging others.

S&T:

I believe that if you love someone, you will tell them the truth. The Passion is not the truth.

S & T stated earlier:

"The Pharisees nullified the Word of God in favor of their "traditions" "

Charles responded:

Is that why Jesus inveighed against them? I don't think so.

S&T:

I can only go by what the Word says:

Mat 15:3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

Mat 15:6 And honour not his father or his mother, [he shall be free]. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

Mar 7:8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, [as] the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

Mar 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Mar 7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

S&T:

What you or I think is really not important.

Phillip:

By the way, some of us work. We don't sit in a front of someone elses computer all day writing posts on a bulletin board.

S&T:

I work everyday, doing business for the King.

S & T:

The key is that Jesus went farther than that. Any orthodox Jew would have chosen "tradition"!

Jesus knew the hearts of the Pharisees and knew they were rotten.

Why else did he liken them to sepulchres?

Once again - you need to look at the life Jesus lived and not put words in his mouth! You cannot just whip out a verse and apply it to anything you wish!

What would your Jesus movie be like? A frowning Jesus who uttered proverbs in a monotone - never showing any emotion?

I am off work this week, and have had less time to 'sit' in front of the computer than while at work :(

But, generally, my job only requires my presence in case the off site teacher has difficulties.

Just felt ya trying to STOMP my toes, don't remember wanting to particular[ly] hang Mel Gibson, but can't dance well enough to protect my toes

</font>[/QUOTE]Absolutely not, Mr Frogman. Wasn't even thinking about you. Sorry....

I was responding to a statement from S&T saying that I jump in here, respond emotionally then I don't come back when he quotes scripture. In actuality, there are a lot of posts that have been added when I get back online at different times in the day.

I was actually pointing straight at that post. Sorry, if I used a shotgun rather than a rifle. No collateral damage intended. ;)

Just running the race and keeping my eyes on the finish line, trying to fight the good fight, earnestly contending for the faith, and working out my salvation with fear and trembling. It's all in a book called the Bible.....
I take it you do not believe in once saved always saved? Not knowing whether you will go to heaven or if you have been good enough? Just curious...you said it. I'm just asking.

Is that why Jesus inveighed against them? I don't think so. Jesus said they were like "whited sepulchres" - basically looking nice outwardly but inside full of rottenness. Who are the Pharisees of today? I'd say they are those who call themselves Christians but have hard hearts full of spite for others and judgmentalism. Someone who would look at a woman wearing a pair of pants and say that she was unsaved or out of fellowship without knowing what was in her heart - that person is a Pharisee!! Someone who would judge another based on the translation of the bible he uses - that person is a Pharisee.

Jesus knows hearts - all of our hearts. He said there will be those who say, "Lord, Lord" but who do not know Him. Being able to quote alot of verses and look down one's nose at other believers is not the hallmark of a Christian. Now that's not to say we do not condemn sin!

They'll know we are Christians by our love - not by our love of judging others.
Charles, I don't know if this is good or bad on this particular thread, but I for one agree with you. ;)

Actually, I think that is what his movie WOULD be like. :(

S&T:

My movie would be about a loving, but righteously indignant Jesus. He would not be the Jesus defined by sources of divination, or a fearful squirming Jesus who lay terrified at the feet of a "she devil", or one who needed encouragement from his mother or Simon to finish the mission that He chose. Hey...that's the Jesus of the scriptures. Now HIM I recognize....

HE"S THE MIGHTY LION OF JUDAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You were saying Phillip?

Glad to see you agree there Charles--so why watch the movie that put words into Jesus mouth different than the Scriptures, and adds to and takes away from what He did?

BTW, Jesus rebuked and corrected as necessary because of love, as did the apostles and as does the Father. Because He loves His children, and without proper correction they tend to become disobedient to Him and His Word.

Contrary to popular belief, love involves more than the warm fuzzies.

Whited sepulchres and pharisees hate the Word of God becuase there is no cloak for their sin.

Hebrews 12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

It's funny to view two people slapping posts at each other back and forth, until you get dizzy, and forget which one you agree with, and all you see is "take that!" and "oh yeah, well take that then!" and so on.

It's funny also that the women don't seem to do this. The make a warm and fuzzy post about a bloody gory topic, then disappear, probably to change a diaper or some other thing males abhor.

C'mon sisters in Christ. Bring your tenderness around town, this citadel of debate, this BB.

Koombayah, my Lord, Koombayah. Someone's debating Lord. Koombayah. Oh Lord...koobayah.

God help any unbeliever who tries to argue his way out of accepting Christ in front of any of us.

We'll chop his head off verbally and make it bow to the Lord of Peace. Ha!

As a Christian Pacifist, I must learn to be pacifistic even in discusssions, soften, retire, go get a cup of Surreality Coffee.

Oh yeah, new report says that only a tiny minority of web users post online content, but are usually highly educated. Why so few posters, and so many lurkers? We scare them off.

Now everybody, take a break and go to www.warholfoundation.org and print out the Home Page, with those funnnnnny Andy Warhol photos, nice, not naughty or anyting, Andy in photo booth with a fist coming off field and punching him. Ya Gotta Laff at this. How I loved that eternal high school goofball guy A.W.! I met him in NYC and talked to him about music, VU.

Now, Now S&T, maybe I'm old fashioned and you consider me liberal in my beliefs, but my mother would have used soap in my mouth, as much for the thought as the word.

You think that's bad. I lived with my wife and THREE daughters until the daughters moved out just recently, you think you've got it bad. There's nothing like being the only male and four females (hormones included). :D

sharpsword: how wuz I supposed to know you were a female type? Your profile does not say what gender persuasion you are.

Can you help me lift Spirit and Truth up off the floor? He's fallen and can't get up, so he claims, but if you gave him a FREE ticket to The Passion, he'd manage to get up...

...to set it on fire, cut it in half, mutilate it, flush it down the toilet, stomp on it, crinkle it up some more, and yell nice words that sound awful at it...

...in that precise order.

I went surreptitiously to that warm and fuzzy site praising Mel Gibson and his culty film...

...I collapsed at the keybored and if it wasn't for my print out of www.warholfoundation.org from which I drew uncanny strength, I don't know if I would've ever made it back to the safety and sanity of real intellectual/spiritual thinking.

Phillip "Now, Now S&T, maybe I'm old fashioned and you consider me liberal in my beliefs, but my mother would have used soap in my mouth, as much for the thought as the word. "

Actually Phillip he's dead on. You were given every opportunity to provide Scriptural proof and evaluation for your stand. You have not done so. You merely expound personal opinion...and God requires His people to apply the Word to share truth in all matters. So in your words..."slice dice and stomp," those who say they are standing on the Word of God and don't prove it.

S&T.....breathe....slowly..take deep breaths... you can make it....

Diane...this has nothing to do with topic...but my kids as adults are on there own and living for the Lord...praise God. As for your reference to menopause  ....around here we often call it mental pause....

Well, Vaspers, I am not offended at all. No one asked...they just presumed that use of the Word of God and standing for truth is a "mans' thing"
It is not...all are called to be equipped and once equipped to withstand and stand firm, utilizing the Word of God to show why we believe and what we believe....and to withstand false doctrine.
Nawww....no tickets to a movie....just will encourage to stand for the Truth based on God's Word.

Vaspers yu said "if I would've ever made it back to the safety and sanity of real intellectual/spiritual thinking."

Ummmm Vaspers, I've been reading your posts...are you sure you made it aaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllll the way back?

I just can't sit here and read this and say nothing. Where is your Christianity? Did not Jesus say "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another". John 13:34. I think the best thing we can do is pray for Mel Gibson. Then yes I think we should go see the movie and when someone talks about it we will know what was in the movie, people see different things. And yes when that unbeliever talks about what he seen then you can witness to him. I believe that this movie will bring people closer to Christ just like 9-11 did. I just think we need to show a little more christian love during these days, these are the last days by what we read in Revelations. I would hate to be caught with a bad attitude when Christ splits the Eastern Skies. May God Bless you all and your work.
