The finality of all of Gods creation... All must die!... Some today... Some tomorrow... All in time... Death will come to all and none shall hinder its coming. No mortal shall stay its hand of darkness!... All fall and none rise!

No poet or sage or wiseman has ever put into words the emptyness and devestation that tears asunder body, soul, and spirit when death comes.

Those that are the closest cause the heart to bleed the more... As the poetess Emily Bronte quoted... Because I could not stop for death... He kindly stopped for me.

What a taboo subject that we don't want to talk about... Until we too are visited by the death angel within our circle of friends then he becomes our friend too... Or is he... Do you want to embrace him and call him YOUR friend?

Birth and death come to all it is a part of our journey to our long sought home... So is a new birth and the death of this old man... It is all part of the journey... Is it not?

Why tears of sorrow for a tender eyed one ripped from the bosom of mortal life and love... What is there to sorrow over except the emptyness... If one of Gods creation of love has gained immortality where is the sorrows? If one is in the presence of God where are the tears?

Sorrows are for those left behind... There are no tears or sorrows in heaven... Tears and sorrows are for mortals... We who are here now!... The mortal fleshly heart is pierced asunder and dealt the final blow unable to rise and embrace the eternal... It sees through the glass darkly.

How can it understand what is beyond its comprehension and understanding when looking with mortal eyes and mind and heart?... The born again heart brings the understanding... The spiritual eyes see the glorious end... And the mind of Christ reveals the blessed assurance... That mortal death is not the end [IMG] ... Are you a stranger to God
    Carried away with your pride?
Tell me, sinner, do you ever stop and think
    Are you afraid to die?

    Are you afraid?
    Are you unsaved?
    Are you afraid to die?

Call on Him while He is near
    Moments are swift passing by
Will you seek Him while He still may be found?
    Are you afraid to die?

    Are you afraid?
    Are you unsaved?
    Are you afraid to die?

Are you too wicked to cry?
Would you to God's bosom fly?
Soon He's coming like a thief in the night
    Are you afraid to die?

    Are you afraid?
    Are you unsaved?
    Are you afraid to die?

    Are you afraid?
    Are you unsaved?
    Are you afraid to die?

Will we recognize loved ones in heaven or will there be no need to because we will be in the glory of the Lord? I often think about that because I love my husband and children so much...am I too tied to earthly things to imagine how wonderful heaven will be?

Molly, of course we'll recognize our relatives and friends, just as we'll recognize the saints of old! Remember when Moses and Elijah came down from heaven and stood with Christ? The disciples KNEW who they were without ever having seen a digital photo of them!

I'm not afraid to die. However, I don't want to die until I've finished my job here on earth and I think that job is my husband, children and grandchildren. If I could choose today to leave earth and take all my beloved with me, straight to heaven.........

"When we allllllll see Jesus, we'll sing and shout the victory!"

Death is mean and cruel. It stings hard and leaves you in such contempt of pain. Death does not care your name, nor does it hear you beg for mercy. You cannot wrestle with death. It is black and destructive; it is dark, and has no light. Death has no spirit. Death leaves you limp and lifeless; with no strength to lift up from the vigils of its fire. Death produces an execution from mortality; leaving emptiness and declaring eternal ruin. Death seperates all that it grabs hold of, from God. Death leaves us in bondage to its sin.

Joh 11:25 Jesus said to her, I am the Resurrection and the Life! He who believes in Me, though he die, yet he shall live.
Joh 11:26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?

    2Ti 1:10 But it is now having been manifested by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has made death of no effect, bringing life and immortality to light through the gospel;

Heb 2:13 And again, "I will put My trust in Him." And again, "Behold Me and the children whom God has given Me."
Heb 2:14 Since then the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise partook of the same; that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death (that is, the Devil),
Heb 2:15 and deliver those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Here in the States, we tend to treat the topic of death as taboo. But in much of Europe, the topic of death is seen differently. It's a part of life, something all must endure someday. Our bodies simply weren't designed to live forever. Even the Bible talks about the maximun lifespan of a human being 120 years (although, '120 years' is also be interpreted to signify a full & complete life; saying someone lived to be 120 would have been equivalent to saying that they lived a complete life).

A good method of comparison of cultures is church cemeteries. Europe is replete with church cemetaries on the property. Here in the US, there are several back east, but as we progress in time, they become noticeably absent. Churches in the last 100 or so years stopped burying their deceased on curch grounds.

I only know of one in my area. An RCA church about 5 minutes from me opened a cemetary on the church grounds about 15 years ago. Some hate the idea, while others like the idea of being buried on church grounds.

An anonymous haiku poem on the subject:

    Death is all around us
Like a wounded animal it pursues us
Its wound, the empty tomb of our Lord.

God be with you Bro. Glen, there's ultimate victory in Christ alone.
    In Christ,

    Tim

I'm sure that most of you have heard this:

Death for the Christian is the ultimate healing. [IMG]

Loved ones will weep o'er my silent face.

Dear ones will clasp me in sad embrace.

Shadows and darkness will fill the place.

    five minutes after I die.

Faces that sorrow I will not see.

Voices that murmur will not reach me.

But where, oh where, will my spirit be

    five minutes after I die?

Quickly the years of my life have flown.

Gathering treasures I had thought my own.

There I must reap from the seed I have sown

    five minutes after I die.

    Naught to repair the good I lack;

Fixed to the goal of my chosen track.

No room to repent; no turning back

    five minutes after I die.

Now I can stifle convictions stirred.

Now I can silence the voice oft heard.

Then the fulfillment of God's sure Word

    five minutes after I die.

Mated forever with my chosen throng,

My! Eternity is long; oh so long.

Then woe is me if my soul be wrong

    five minutes after I die.

"Oh what a fool!" - hard the word but true.

Passing the Savior with death in view.

Doing a deed I can never undo

    five minutes after I die.

God help you choose! Your eternal state

Depends on your choice; you dare not wait.

You must choose NOW; it will be too late

    five minutes after you die.

I don't want to die before Barry does. I don't want him to be alone again.

Aside from that, and wanting to make sure my retarded son will be OK, death for me will be a release from a body which has spent a long, long time betraying me by bits and pieces. And it will be an entrance into the presence of the Lord I love so much and who has loved me so much more!

I'm not real fond of the idea that pain may accompany the transition, but I've lived with pain probably most of my life, and I'm not really afraid of it.

Have lots of sermons and pithy sayings about death. But I am not a fan. The more I see the blessing of helping raise grandchildren, the more I'd like to live to 103.

And the more I see my own sinfulness and failings, the less I look forward to death. Seriously. [IMG]

No, the ressurection is, for death itself is healed.

Actually ther is a book by one of the old English Puritans called "The death of death in the death of Christ" took me a while to understand the title, and when i did i realised the wonder of what Christ had done. The book is worth reading, I found it quite heavey in places, but worth the effort. Understanding and appeciating the title is worth a study in itself.

    Regards
    Bob

I am sorry to read that you feel that way about death. Is it death or dying that actually bothers you? For myself, I am actually looking forward to that time when I am called home. I don't see it as something to be afraid of.

I think this thread gives us all an opportunity to voice any thoughts, apprehensions or fears we may have about death. It is still a subject people don't want to discuss.

The only thing which bothers me is the fact that at the moment our three children still have not accepted Christ as their Saviour and I would really like to think they were heaven bound too.

    Blessings

My father always said he wanted to live to be 99 and be shot by a jealous husband. :D I don't mind death, I just don't want to be there when it happens. Seriously, I always thought that the closer I got to death the more afraid I would be but, to my surprise it is the exact opposite. My only concern is how my wife will deal with it. The sting of death is gone, I am firmly conviced of the good things to follow. Except for the natural concern for the process itself why would any Christian be afraid of death. It is a win win situation. What awaits us is either good, gooder, or goodest. Now my wife's death, that just scares the bejeebers out of me.

Bob... Reading that book right now... Death of death in the death of Christ by John Owen... It is very deep and well worth the read... Originally written in 1684 and can be purchased on line.

Sherrie... My dear christian friend and sister in the Lord... Who can fathom the deep sorrows and emptyness except those who have been through it as one so close to the heart. Thank you for your words of comfort they are appreciated as always... Brother Glen [IMG] & [IMG] Sister Charlotte [IMG]

BTW, death is NOT a part of life. At what point in life are you dead. Other people's death may be a part of your life but yours isn't.

One of my aunts, had Alzheimer's really bad. It had gone on for probably 10 years. She looked so scared and confused all the time, nervous and anxious also. Almost like a frightened child. She had gotten to the point that she couldn't talk. My uncle is about 84 years old, and refused to put her in a nursing home. He took care of her. They went to a doctor's appointment, and as he was opening to door to go in, she fell down - heart attack - and was gone. We all felt that it was a merciful way to go, compared to what she was suffering. Supposedly, her heart was healthy. Anyway, at the funeral, I wish I could describe it. She looked SO peaceful. She looked like she did years ago, before Alzheimer's did it's work. The whole countenance of her face, even in death, was comforting.
