Lev. 27, Redeeming what is the Lord's

This is a fascinating chapter if only because so much of it seems to foreign to us in our times.

Just a brief addition: there is a radical difference between that which is dedicated to the Lord and that which is devoted to Him. That which is devoted to Him cannot be redeemed back; that which is dedicated can be, generally at its value as set by the priest plus 20%.

The last verse, 34, of this chapter and book, is strong evidence that Moses himself wrote the book:

These are the commands the Lord gave Moses on Mount Sinai for the Israelites.

Please note again that these commandments are for the Israelites. They were never intended to be part of the law for all men everywhere in the same way as capital punishment for murder and the Ten Commandments were.
