I find it interesting that Liberals suddenly think that we need to return the U.S. to a military draft. This is an obvious attempt on their part to make the war in Iraq more and more unpopular among the American people no matter how many seemingly cogent arguements they can come up with.
If we can do the job with an all volunteer army, why would Liberals like columnist Mark Shields be so eager to return to the draft? Are their any other liberals out their who agree with his arguements?

Let us resolve the constitutional problem of a unisex draft before the draft is necessary.

It isn't really new - Rangel proposed it just before the Iraqi invasion...the theory being that few people would've supported the attack had their own children or own selves been at risk.

I don't know that liberals have embraced this idea of compulsory national service (military & non), but it's an interesting idea.

I'd have to hear more about it from all sides before I had a real opinion about it. Except, as billwald said, it must include women as well.

Compulsory service is a stupid idea. Id much rather have a smaller fighting force that wants to be there instead of a loose group of people who are threatened with jail time if they dont stick around.

Just like all the other items that have gone before the Congress recently. Flag burning, Gay Marriage etc. All the things that push people's buttons, but they know it won't pass.

Both sides of the aisle should really work at solving problems instead of Grand Standing. I mean if I did as little work as they do, I would be fired. And since they are being paid $162,000 per year, they should earn some of it.

I am being to think that Richard Pryor in Brewster's Millions had it right:

Vote For NONE of the ABOVE!

Did the main sponsors of the bills vote against them?
