Intriguing...

Man Lifeway (and the SBC) is really just becoming one giant nepotism, favoritism fest.

After 'task force' chairman explains away last June's overwhelming convention vote:

"Messengers to the 2011 SBC annual meeting were encouraged to vote for the resolution based on incorrect information."

Jerome, you have a nasty habit of putting a nasty spin to things. The word "peddling" has a nasty connotation as you well know. The article said nothing to the effect you are trying to twist.

In the words of Greenway:"We do not believe the 2011 NIV rises to the level to where it should be pulled or censored or not carried in our retail chain." To say the least.

Lifeway is the publishing arm of the SBC denomination (aka the Sunday School Board before it was 'rebranded'). Also the name of the denomination's bookstores.

When Lifeway started publishing books that changed the words the author wrote to say what he did believe or write is when I quit buying their books.

Lifeway Christian Stores http://www.lifeway.com/

There's one near us and I'm on their mailing list.

My impression, FWIW. It's all about money. Period.

They are promoting anything with a "Christain" theme that will sell. Right now they are pushing "Lifeway Is Your Beth Moore Headquarters", the DVD Courageous with all the "stuff" associated with it, and "Top Christian Music". Those are just a few of the examples. BTW, forgot to include coffee cups, gift wrap, and plastic drinking cups quoting scripture.

When you walk into the store you have to make your way around tables filled with "stuff" to get to the books sections. Christian authors come before the true Author of the scriptures. Finally when you reach the Bible section, there's every flavor currently being promoted on the market. I don't use the term "flavor" lightly, BTW. Camo Bibles for hunters. Pink Ribbon Bibles for breast cancer. Gaudy rhinestone covered ones for teenagers.

God's word is being treated as a mass marketing commodity. Vacation Bible School shouldn't be about junk. That really hit home last year with the Big Apple theme sold by Lifeway. Inflatable statue of Liberty, inflatable torches, fake taxi cabs, and other promo items featuring the New York City theme.

I'm not saying the children didn't learn about God during VBS. I am saying that Lifeway raked in a hefty chunk of change when I saw the Big Apple being promoted at most Baptist churches in our area last summer. It often reminded me of the money changers in the temple.

Something's wrong with this picture.

Thanks for letting me rant a bit this morning. It isn't just Lifeway. That's the outlet closest to me that I can visit personally. I see the same thing on line with other distributors of "Christian" materials.

So if I were an editor and added a "not" between your "did" and "believe," would you buy it?
It should have read, "When Lifeway started publishing books that changed the words from what the author wrote to what he did not believe or wrote is when I quit buying their books." Sorry my brain works faster than my hands.
