Go to ours about twice a month. I hate to say it, though, but Family Christian Stores usually have better prices, just not the selection.

I love Lifeway Christian Stores also. I love the selection on everything but especially the HCSB. I can get Hardback with all the notes. Unfortunately we don't have one to close. But when I get the chance I do enjoy their stores very much. I wish the BGC had something like them.

Love Lifeway, they have a large selection. Got a bible study ordered now from Lifeway, expecting it anyday. From what I've seen no christian store has really good prices.

They're ok. Around here there is quite a selection of stores to choose from. We have the Sword of the Lord bookstore, LifeWay, Salt & Pepper, Family Christian Bookstore and Bible Factory Outlet. We also have a few family owned Christian bookstores around too.

I worked at a locally owned Christian bookstore in Conroe, Texas. The store was there for seven years, and had developed quite a following by their fifth birthday. Then Walmart and Sam's moved in across the interstate, and LifeWay built a new store 4 miles away. We closed after Christmas on the seventh year. It was sad.

I hate going into any Christian book store because I want to buy, buy, buy!

Any Christian bookstore seems to charge extremely high prices for music CDs. I know they need to make a profit, but they need to be more competitive.

Competition and pricing is based on the principle of supply and demand. When all US Christians buy overpriced books every time we walk into a Christian Bookstore, the prices will remain high. It is simple economics.

Whether they are a secular or "so-called Christian store" they are in the business to "make money"; so, therefore, they will maximize their profits.

If you want to see a cut-throat business, you need to get into the Christian music/radio business. Those sharks will cut your throat as fast or faster than any secular company.

I actually had a competing application on a radio station once and a man from a big Christian Chain said he was going to take my license away "in the name of the Lord". We had to pay him $20,000 to drop his application.

I have a REAL problem with the Christian Book/Media/Music/radio/tv markets. Most have simply found a great place to sell their wares.

Actually, I have always found the price of Christian books to be quite comparable to a book of equivalent size and format book in the secular market, with a few exceptions like those Prayer of Jabez-style booklets Multnomah publishes, which are way overpriced.

Christian music CDs, on the other hand, have always been priced approximately $5 or so more than CDs sold in a regular music store. As a result I'm always happy to buy books from the Christian bookstore, but I will only resort to buying music from them if I can't get it at a better price from another outlet. It's less the economies of scale at work than good old-fashioned suckerism.

I like Lifeway myself, but like MCDIRECTOR I have the want to buy something everytime I enter the building. I have already made my mind up before I enter that I will not buy books from them or Family Christian unless needed. What I do is go in and look at books I like then I visit websites that offer the same books at used prices or better discount prices and buy off the web. My school sells its books for retail prices or even higher sometimes, while I would like to help my school or lifeway out in the area of funding I need for them to drop their prices if they would like my money.

I love Lifeway! I get all my books/supplies for my Ladies Bible Study there.

Every time I go, I have to get a little tin of Scripture Mints, made in the shape of little fish. [IMG]

I used to really enjoy lifeway and similar bookstores, but I don't anymore. I apart from the one on campus, I rarely go to a Christian bookstore (it's been over a year at least.) I usually only go into Lifeway on campus to kill time.

I find the books I want from talking with other people who recommend books, or I browse online at other bookstores.

Yes, I look online first before buying books or just about anything. If I can get it cheaper online, including postage as part of the price, then I usually buy online. We go to Lifeway only a few times year, there isn't one close, and the one that is close I don't care for, and maybe go in there once a year if that much.

I like the Lifeway stores that are on seminary campuses. They have a great selection of the more academic books that the other stores don't normally carry.

    Question:
Are Lifeway Stores still somehow connected with the SBC?

Went to one a few months ago. Found nothing worth buying except a $2 closeout CD.
