Lift Every Voice And Sing

I assume that you are talking about the hymn in the 1991 Baptist hymnal? I play it every now and again for an offertory hymn because the music is so beautiful.

We have never sung it, however, as a congregational hymn. Probably because it is the national anthem for the NAACP.

I think it's a shame that we don't sing it to the Lord in church. It was put into the hymnal for that reason. Why don't we sing it?

I like all of the verses, but I like the 3rd verse the most.

Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;

Thou who hast by Thy might,
led us into the light,
keep us forever in the path we pray.

Lest our feet stray from the places,
our God, where we met Thee.

Lest our hearts,
