Lincoln, Freedom, and the 'Iraq Syndrome'.

Over the years, I have noticed that Muslims expect Americans to 'free' them. Last night I watched a very good special last night on Lincoln and his perfectly timed emancipation proclamation (earlier and not enough Americans would have excepted it and later and much later and it would have probably been rejected with the rush to end the war and reconstruct).

What struck me was the constant refrain that I have heard from a few Muslims over the years, "If you want peace then you have to make all Muslims free." Last night it dawned on me, Muslims don't want our democracy, they do not want to fight for their freedom, but they do expect the USA to liberate them from their intolerant dictatorships . . . I began to realize that this is what I see on faces in the Iraq news videos - the people are happy, enjoying themselves, but are desperate for someone else to stop the bloodbath - I am calling this the 'Iraq Syndrome'. The 'Iraq Syndrome' is the powerless feeling that a people get when struck by disaster (war, famine, tyranny, tsunamis) and they wait for Americans to come fix them, and then some complain that we didn't do well enough.

Can we (the USA) survive the 'Iraq Syndrome', or is it workable?

Should we (the USA) even care about all the Muslims being freed from their evil religion?

Note: as Christians we should care about the freedom of muslims from the evil of islam. But, should American policy reflect a clear Christian value?

PS What triggered the concept was the story of Tolstoy going into the interior of Russia (rural) and speaking to some peasants about the 'Great People' of the world. After he told them of several, the peasants asked him about that man from America that set the slaves free - Lincoln.

Their fixation on the great American dream for themselves became apparent to me. Then I just connected the dots from over the years - it was not our constitution that people dreamed about - it was our dying by the hundreds of thousands for freedom that they dreamed about. Then they dream of us dying for them.

The Muslim people don't want the U.S. to save them from anyone. We invaded Iraq because that was a centerpiece of vthe Bush plan to take over the world.

No, I don't believe we should get involved in "religious wars." We are not a "Christian country." We are a free country that has a professing christian majority.

The Iraqi people are perfectly willing to let Americans spill their blood and treasure on their soil for them because we are infidels and 1000 infidels, it has been said, is still not even worth one muslim. Also, there isn't a Patrick Henry in the lot of them.

    Welllllll

That is not what several muslims from different countries have told me over time . . . and watching them on TV news reports - they seem to be awfully happy to see americans . . .

    . . . in Korea . . . sometimes they like americans and sometimes they don't . . . i know that you think that bush controls the medial . . . ok.

I think you are right. And what is scarier - I dont' think that we could produce another patrick henry . . . or a lincoln.
