Lines in the sand

The need for self-styled fundamentalists to constantly draw lines in the sand is unhealthy. Who's in, who's out, and who says who's in and who's out is an Olympic sport with them.
Instead of focusing on doctrine, this approach focuses on personalities and institutions.
This approach makes broad generalizations. In the real world, no one is 100% right and no one is 100% wrong. Instead of classifying people and institutions according to Dollar's opinionated scheme, we should talk about particular issues.
This approach gets locked up in the past. Time moves on. As false teachings arise, the Church is forced to address the errors. All of our statements of faith are in fact written vis-a-vis a particular heresy or heresies. It's pathetic to hear fundamentalists shadow boxing with modernists when modernism has been dead for decades.
