Love Ed's teaching. Heard him many times over the years. Mariners is unlike Saddleback (Saddleback is SBC; Mariners has no connection but most of the staff are SBC-oriented.

Don't like their use of "pastor" so loosely. The Bible only uses the term once in entire NT - the OT is clear that it means "shepherd". It is NOT a "title" but a "job description" of the ELDERS in a NT church that shepherd/teach people. Way too many churches FORGET that this is a job of ELDERS not John (or Joyce) Doe. And don't get me started with churches ordaining women as elders.

Full disclosure. My son is an ordained GARBC Baptist pastor and is the Junior High Pastor at Mariner's main Irvine campus. He was interim pastor at their Huntington Beach campus after his 12 years as High School Pastor at Saddleback. My grandson, a Biola grad, is on staff in the Mariner's High School Ministry.
