Looking for a Fundamental College

Hello,

Looking for a good accredited Fundamental baptist college. I'm considering Hyles-Anderson in hammond (where my assistant pastor went) but I heard hammond is a really bad area. My friend's mother that lives in the south bend over there was "fearing for my life" if I went over in Hammond. So does anybody know of some good ones even closer to NJ? I was also considering PBI. Thanks

Kara

Kara,
These two schools are historically separated and fundamental and are regionally accredited:

Maranatha Baptist Bible College, Watertown, Wisconsin- http://www.mbbc.edu

Faith Baptist Bible College, Ankeny, Iowa- http://www.faith.edu

Both schools are located in small-town, suburban areas, with access to larger cities.

Northland Baptist Bible College, Dunbar, Wisconsin ( http://www.nbbc.edu ) is also pursuing TRACS accredidation.

Pensacola Christian College ( http://www.pcci.edu ), though not accredited, might also be a place you'd feel comfortable.

Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with the schools in the upper midwest. Faith, Northland, Marantha, and Pillsbury ( http://www.pillsbury.edu ) all are wonderful places for a young person to develop balanced, biblical convictions while receiving a well-rounded education. The leadership at each of these schools is experienced, and the size of their student bodies provides opportunities for fellowship and meaningful relationships with fellow students and professors. Check out their websites, and visit the campuses if you can. The summer is a good chance to find out if one or more of these schools has a ministry team visiting your area that you could visit with, too. Many of the school list their summer ministry team itineraries on their websites...

Maranatha is a good school, very fundamental, and conservative. Accredited academics, very high quality education.

I have heard good things about Faith, but personally don't know much about it.

Northland is a good school for ministry degrees, but not yet accredited.

I would not recommend Pensacola, for a variety of reasons, but we don't need to go down that rathole on this post.
Same thing with HAC, neither of those schools are accredited, among other things.

Would NEVER recommend Hyles. Sorry.

Maranatha BBC offers full program (music, drama, sports, local church oriented, bible core, historic fundamental baptist) and fully accredited.

Worth a check out.

If the "PBI" you're referring to is Pensacola Bible Institute (Peter Ruckman's "school")- my recommendation: Please keep looking.

The school referred to by Shiloh above is actually Maryland Baptist Bible College, a ministry of Maranatha Baptist Church.

Not to be confused at all with Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, WI

I am very uncomfortable with many of these schools that seem to think that being a fundamentalist means holding to the AV1611 and not wearing jeans or going to the movies.

Unsure how solid of a Bible education you can get from a school that seems to be more interested in extra-biblical garbage than teaching just the Word.

I would add International Baptist College, a ministry of Tri-City Baptist Church, Tempe Arizona. IBC is small but it is accredited.

"We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the original autographs of the Scriptures, and that they were inerrant and infallible. We also believe that God has preserved His inerrant Word down through the ages in the Masoretic Hebrew text of the Old Testament and the Greek Received Text of the New Testament. This authority we believe has been preserved for the English speaking world in the Authorized Version of 1611, the King James Bible. We use the Received Text of the New Testament in our Greek department, believing the United Bible Society text and the Farstad-Hodges "Majority Text" to be corrupt and undependable" --from Doctrinal Statement, eCatalog. 5/2003

This was the only one close to NJ that I found. I do not know of any in NJ, I do know there is one in NY State and I just passed by it last weekend but I can not remember the name of it. You may want to do a search in PA.

This sounds like a school of indoctrination rather than a Bible college. A good Bible college prepares its students for the study the Bible so that they can study it for themselves. The MARYLAND BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE AND THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY indoctrinates their students and greatly discourages them from learning for themselves what the Bible teaches. Any school that tells you what to believe rather than equipping you to learn is something less than a college. Unless you want to spend many thousands of dollars to get brainwashed, stay away from The MARYLAND BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE AND THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY and other such schools.

I stand corrected on the MARYLAND Baptist Bible College. Sorry, I must of had Maranatha on my mind. I don't know if the ones critical of the school have ever been there but I have. It's a good school and the close prozimity to NJ would certainly be a + to you. Check them out, give them a call and ask for Dr. Robert Hitchens he will answer your questions.

Craigbythesea,

EVERY school has its presuppositions, not just the ones that teach things you don't agree with. I am not familiar with the school in Maryland, but they are teaching what they believe to be true, and as a Baptist, you should accept and respect that, even if you don't endorse it.

There is a difference between "finding the truth yourself" and "finding your own truth." Sometimes, I'm afraid, my generation has erred too far to the second option.

It is a Christian's duty to teach the truth. If the school in Maryland is doing that to the best that they understand it, I can't fault them for it.

I am somewhat familiar with Maryland Baptist Bible College, having attended several of their Fundamentals of the Faith Bible Conferences when I lived in Maryland. Allen Dickerson, the pastor of the church associated with the school, used to preach at Bob Jones, even getting an honorary doctorate from BJU at one point I beleive. They have since completely disassociated themselves from BJU and really every other fundamental Bible college, university, and seminary. They are militant KJVO and hyper-separatist.

As far as their "school" is concerned, I would not recommend it at all. It is lacking in many areas -- academics, proper philosophy, etc.

Absolute nonsense!

It's not nonsense. It's no more legitimate for you to call what they do "brainwashing" than it is for a reformed/covenental believer to call, say, Dallas Seminary a "brainwashing" institution because they teach dispensationalism.
