Luke:

Luke 5:31 "Jesus answers them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." (There it is again, he came for the sinners.)

And here is that same thing about doing good. You'd think he'd get tired of that message after awhile. I mean, apparently, from what is taught by some folks here, he didn't really MEAN it.
Luke 6:9 Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath; to do good or to do evil. To save life or destroy it?"

Oh, wow, here is THIS stuff again too:
Luke 6:27
"But I tell you who hear me, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you . (Geeze, how annoying is that!? Don't even ask for it back? Treat them like I want them to treat me? That sure doesn't fit well with the "treat em like they are unworthy of love" stuff!)

But he wasn't done.
[b}If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.[/b] And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinenrs expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great and you will be sons of the Most High because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.... BE MERCIFUL JUST AS YOUR FATHER IS MERCIFUL . (Well, darn, there it is again. Treat others like God treats you. You're unworhty and loved and forgiven. Love and forgive the unworthy. This is starting to get old isn't it? A lot harder than judging them.)

He wasn't done though!

Do not judge, and you will not be judged.
(Twist that folks.)

[b}Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. [/b] (Surely you can find a loop hole for that if you try hard enough. Maybe you want to say that one was ONLY talking to the sinners. Or maybe it was ONLY to the 12? Couldn't mean US today? )

Forgive, and you will be forgiven. (Well, he REALLY meant, if they repent and convince me they were serious didn't he?)

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (It sure was easier to do that judging thing.)

And now he starts name calling!
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" (Plank? What plank? Of wait, you don't think he means that bit about "love" being the second commandment do you? If he does, maybe NOT loving is the plank.)

"How can you say to your brother, "Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye, when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. (Let's see, first obey the command to love, and THEN correct. That's an interesting twist.)

Then there is the woman who anointed Christ. The verses that JD is so determined cannot possibly mean what they actually say.

A Pharisee invites Christ to dinner. A sinner that is so bad the whole town knows she is a sinner, anoints Christ's feet with perfume and kisses her feet. And being the good Christian, I mean Pharisee, he is, Simon goes, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him, and what kind of woman she is, that she is a sinner." (If he was a Christian, he wouldn't be talking to THOSE people. .. sound familiar?)

And then Jesus tells a parable about 2 men. One owes 500, the other owes 50. Both are forgiven. He askes who is going to love the lender the most.

Then he tells Simon, you didn't kiss my feet, but she did. You didn't anoint me, but she did.
Vs 47: Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgive-FOR SHE LOVED MUCH. But he who has been forgiven little loves little." THEN Jesus said to her, "your sins are forgiven." For - because - .. She was forgiven because she loved. It was NOT she loved because she was forgiven. Don't reverse. Don't change the message Christ gave.
Don't forget, "FOR" and "Then" they are important words. She LOVED Christ, then she was forgiven.

Luke 10:25-28 (Here we go again. What IS with this message? Why does it keep poppoing up. Some of you have made it QUITE clear that Christ didn't MEAN this, so why does He KEEP repeating it??)

)n one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus, "Teacher," he asked, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" "What is written in the law?" He replied. "How do you read it?" "He answered: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all yoru soul and with all your strength, and with all your mind. And love your neighbor as yourself. Now.. watch this.... I mean, since you folks have done such a GREAT job of proving he didn't MEAN that, what did he mean now7 You have answered corectly, Jesis replied. Do this and you will live."

(And what if I don't??)

Well, now, apparently we aren't the only ones who wanted a loop hole. Vs 29:

"But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, And who is my neighbor. " (Surely its going to be the head deacon of my church.)
Beginning in VS 30:
In reply, Jesus said, A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was, and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out 2 silver coins and gave them to the innkeerp. "Look after him," he said, "And when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you have." "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" The expert in the law replied, the one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."

Now, if your pastor hasn't bothered to teach you this verse, let me elbaorate a bit. A Priest would be one who truly tried to keep the law, the Levites were the tribe chosen to be Priests. The Samaritans were the pagans, the heathens that good Jews didn't even talk to.

But Christ said the pagan in the story was the real neighbor. The command to love our neighbors includes loving the sinners.

Luke is an interesting book. You really should read it all.

Luke 11 teaches the six woes and talks about Pharisees who wash the outside of a cup but leave the inside filthy with "greed and wickedness".
Vs 42 says, "Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone. (Looks to me that obedience is worthless without love.)

Vs 46 "Jesus replied, "And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them." (When you people are "correcting" others, do you do anything to help them? To lift them up? To love them? If not, how are you different than the Pharisees?)

Luke has the Parable of the Lost Son. One son did everything he was supposed to do. Stayed home with Dad, worked hard, struggled to please. The other was wild, threw away his inheritance, shamed his family. Crawled home in defeat. His father welcomed him home like a prince, killed the best stock for the party. And the obedient brother got jealous. And the answer from the father is in Luke 15:31 "My son, the father said, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad because this brother of yorus was dead and is alive again, he was lost and is found." (Why don't we apply that to Christains who went astray and turned back to God? Why don't we show them love instead of shunning them and using the righteous robes of the Pharisees to point fingers and go, "They sinned" ?)

Luke 17:1 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come." (God is telling you, sin is bound to happen.)

Vs 3 "So watch yourselves, If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. If he sins against you seven times a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, I repent, forgive him." (Wait a minute! I thought we were supposed to say, "You don't mean it, forget it!" What is this, "If he needs to repent 7 x 7 I forgive him 7 X 7 business? Obviously he couldn't MEAN it when he repented." Are you saying Christ knows less than you know?)

Then there is Luke 23:34 "Jesus said, Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." [/b}

Do you really THINK about that people?
The ultimate sinners.
The ultimate group that rejected Christ, and crucified Christ.
The group that seemed to deserve His love the least, and His prayer is "Father forgive them."

And yet WE sit in condemnation of those who TRY to do His will? Who love him and fail?

The book ends with the ascension.
