    hey - so i thought i'd start a more friendly thread. :p

    this thread i hope will continue to be friendly...
    and not turn into a debate..

    but let's post some lyrics to songs that have either alot of meaning to you in your life - or even a little bit. or in-between.

    describe a bit why they have meaning - is there a story why they're meaningful to you?

    i dunno. heh.

    4 years ago in June, my husband was planning some new songs to introduce to the church and one of them was Blessed Be Your Name by Matt Redman. The worship team had done it a few times in practice and he was going to do it in church in a week and a half. That night we were supposed to get a huge rain storm and we had been having trouble with our living room roof leaking badly and so I asked DH to clean out the gutters at the living room before he ran out to help a friend with his boat and he reluctantly did it - along with deciding to get on the roof to clean out the rest of the gutters while he was at it. He didn't know that there was a yellow jackets' nest up there until they started stinging his eyes and as he jumped up to get away, he lost his balance and fell off the roof. Landing on the cement patio on his feet ended up crushing his one foot really badly and injuring the soft tissue in the other.

    As he laid on the gurney in the ER knowing that he was facing possible surgery (and not realizing the full ramifications of this injury including 4.5 months being totally non-weight bearing, 2 surgeries that were too late to save the full use of the foot and a tremendous amount of pain from that moment until eternity), he just kept coming back to this song.

    "Blessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful, where Your streams of abundance flow, blessed be Your name.
    And blessed be Your name when I'm found in the desert place. Though I walk through the wilderness, blessed be Your name.

    Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise.
    When the darkness closes in, Lord, still I will say
    Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your name....

    You give and take away, you give and take away.
    My heart will choose to say, Lord, blessed be Your name"

    It WAS a decision through all of this to still choose to bless the Lord. He brought my husband through it - in a long, hard, painful way but God was still amazingly good and He was still God.

    I'll never sing that song without thinking about all that my poor DH has gone through with that foot. It's almost 4 years later and he's walking (Praise the Lord), and yet has constant pain (we still Praise the Lord). God has used this in a big way for His glory.

    "Blessed Be Your Name" is the backdrop for our testimony shared in our Easter musical in a couple weeks. My wife will get up and share with our church about losing our baby girl 11 days before she was to be born. The Lord gives and He takes away. My heart will choose to day, "Lord blessed be Your name."

    "Blessed Be Your Name" ... great song!

    FFH recorded a song -- "One of these Days" -- several years back when my dad was dying from cancer. Dad loved it when my son, teaching himself to play guitar, sang it to him. I still can't hear it without crying like a little girl! (No offense intended, little girls.)

    OK Joshua - now I'm crying. I still think about you guys and your little one.

    It's amazing how even a song can minister to us when we go through rough times. The biggest key in that song is the phrase "My heart will CHOOSE to say" because it IS a choice. It's so unbelievably hard but God is good no matter what and He deserves our praise.
