The sad thing is that he's polling so high because he's saying a lot of what folks in the GOP would like to say but are afraid to other than anonymously on message boards.

He appeals to a lot of the GOP base even if they won't admit it. But he's polling second behind Bush. It's the perfect storm.

Blacks being murdered by police officers.
    Churches burning.
And an overt racially prejudiced and possibly racist Donald Trump in second place for the GOP Presidential nomination.

I mean the man quotes FOX News for goodness sake.

    Only in "post-racial" America.

This country exists because illegals invaded it, and wanted others to do so. They were upset over people NOT being able to come here, and said this: "He has endeavored to prevent the population of these states; for that purpose obstructing the laws for naturalization of foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migration hither, and raising the conditions of new appropriations of lands."
They were upset that the "merciless Indian savages" fought back.
Look what invasion of illegals did for Natives, yet that is defended. Why is immigration no longer defended?

That would be emigration. We're talking about immigration.
It's exactly the same, just opposite.

Talk about taking things out of context...

The founders of this country were concerned that the King of England was restricting people immigrating to America. Yes, that much is true. They were concerned about the King limited legal immigration however, it had nothing to do with illegal immigration.

Who is NOT defending immigration today? The issue is illegal immigration. My mother was an immigrant to this country. She (and her mother) came here legally (through Ellis Island at the time) and became hard working, contributing members of this country. I have nothing against immigrants, in fact I respect them. It's illegal immigrants I have a problem with.

How could they be legal immigrants if they did not have permission to be here, let alone invite others? Who gave the green light? Native Americans? Central Americans?
I tend to be against illegal immigration except in cases where amnesty or protection is needed. Not just for crime control, but to protect newcomers from being exploited and abused. (Where are all those children, btw?) But my mind isn't all the way settled, and that has a lot to do with the country's history of taking land from people it rightfully belonged to.
My kids are ... I don't know. First generation from one parent, not much further back from the other.
This probably is why I tend to look at history a bit different. I don't understand why people who first came here were so violent towards their hosts. It isn't what people seeking safety and a good life tend to do. So it doesn't make sense to me that people defend that and won't say it was wrong. But it's wrong if people do it now. So I do throw it out there on occasion. Nobody on this particular website, that I can recall, has ever said it wrong.
That seems important. Both in terms of what a believer will condone and what they will reject.

The Dems are hoping that Donald will be nominated.

I think that we need a man who will stand up for the USA! If Donald Trump is the only Republican with any fight in him, then more power to him!

...Carusone, who was also a ringleader of an anti-Rush Limbaugh pressure campaign, started his “Dump Trump” campaign in earnest in 2012 — three years before Trump announced for president (Here’s Dump Trump’s Twitter account, registered in 2011).

And Carusone is using the same MoveOn.org petition! In other words, media outlets are reporting that the petition gained more than 700,000 signatures, making it seem like those signatures all happened overnight, rather than over the course of several years.

Excellent post Gina. Other than flat out selfish, wickedness, there is no explanation for why people, whose ancestors illegally came here and took land from the Native Americans, are so hostile towards immigrants.

We can make an excuse for our ancestors because they were trying to get away from a repressive regime and to a better life. But we can't bring ourselves to understand that other people in the world want to do that also.

God has told us how we should treat these people. And it's time Christians started acting like they follow Christ and not the politics of FOX News and a political party.

When will you be returning the property your ancestors stole to its original owner?

Stop showing your obtuseness this early in the morning. No one said anything about returning property to anyone. SO your comment is irrelevant.

The point was that Christians need to stop acting as though these people are any different than their own ancestors, and start showing the grace and mercy of Christ just as was extended to our ancestors. None of us would be here had the indigenous people been as wicked as some of us now are about immigrants, illegal or otherwise.

I'm sorry to continue the questions, but you did open the door. :flower: And that removes any label of obtuseness from anyone.

Are you going to buy plane tickets for your family and move back to where your ancestors came from? I can be magnanimous here. I'll come over and help you pack.

Or by this time, would your moving back make you an alien of that country?

For the record, I think Donald Trump said a horrible thing about illegal aliens and no matter his strengths, we need to stick a fork in him because he is done. I didn't want him to run in the first place, but now I am vehemently opposed to his even discussing it.

But let me ask you two things. Are you saying that because our ancestors were so vile that if anyone wants to do the same vile things today that we have no right to question it or try to contain it?

And ... We all give you so much heartburn - why do you drive yourself crazy by staying here? (I'm just half kidding with this one, but I couldn't remain at a site where that many people gave me that much acid reflux)

I'm not being obtuse. Your ancestors -illegal immigrants - stole property from the folks that were there first. Take ownership of their crime and do the right thing.

Apparently you do not actually know what "obtuseness" means since you have misused it here.

The point padre made, and you missed, was if you are going to hold people who are against illegal immigration accountable to what you personally believe happened in the past then you should be willing to hold yourself by the same standard. If you are not willing to hold yourself to the same standard then you are hypocritical to hold anyone to it.

    He made a reasoned point.

It must be contagious. Why would I be buying tickets to where my ancestors came from? The fact that our ancestors didn't come from here should make us a little bit more magnanimous in dealing with the immigrants who are coming now.

    I'm part Native American so I'm home.

Nope. Simply saying once again that Christians should display a little grace and mercy considering Christ who they follow and the fact that our ancestors didn't exactly "legally" get permission to be here either.

Maybe you're mixing threads but I've said nothing about heartburn or reflux.

You were too being obtuse. And I'm all for giving the Natives back their land. We can start with your neighborhood.
