I remember how I attended the first in a series of sermons out of Romans, and in over an hour, we didn't even get through the first 5 or 6 verses. I decided that I would never do it that way.

I did, however, start a study on the book of Romans today. Unbelievable...I could probably preach about chapter 1, verses 1-4 for an hour. I never really paid attention until now how much material is in there! I can see now why preachers do a series of sermons through Romans.

I'd probably not take 10 years doing it though! Anyone else have this experience?

I started listening to these about a year and a half ago: 55 sermons and only halfway through.

It takes that long if you want all the Book has to offer. I can't imagine all I would have missed if he did it all in a 10 week series.

I've heard it said, and rightly so, that Romans is THE book out of all the books of the Bible, that one should request if stranded on a deserted island. There's so much good stuff in the book that one can spend a lifetime studying it, and still not get out of it all the doctrine!

Perhaps that is why Romans 9-11 has been such a source of contention through the ages. None of us understand it well enough!

I led a Bible study through the Book of Romans that took us about two years (averaging an hour per week.) Maybe I shouldn't have allowed discussion!

It's a book whose sections, like all scripture, must be understood in it's entire context--Romans 9-11 especially! So you have to keep reviewing the "big picture" throughout. It's really one single unified arguement (complete with "rabbit trails").

I preached on Romans for three years and got through Chapter 10. David Martin Lloyd-Jones, the greatest expositional preacher of the 20th century in most eyes, preached Romans on Friday nights for 14 years, and was in the middle of chapter 14 when his health forced his retirement. I have his sermons up through Romans 13--super stuff. Barnhouse published four volumes on Romans, as did his successor, J.M. Boice, recently gone to be with the Lord. Take your time, research it, and savor every moment.

Did a "short" version of Romans in Adult Bible Study for a full year. My favorite bible book, bar none.
