    Check out this 40,000 year old rope making tool. Three strand.

    The pre twist is carved intricately into the drill holes, so the user only needs to draw the fibres through and overlay. A huge time and labor saver, considering you don’t have to manually put the twist in.
    How about that for skilful engineering and conceptualisation. Even the drill hole is chamfered.

    Isn’t it. I’m thinking fine scalloped chert or Flint flakes fixed firmly to thin timber shafts. This is very high level workmanship.

    This reminds me of Inuit skills with walrus tusk.
