Man of God?

Reminds me of the time we had no one in youth but me, and I had to attend the adults class which my pastor taught. One Sunday, he started a series of lessons on what the church needed, and started with what the church needed in a pastor. He asked fo us to give our answers. I'd only been saved for a few months but one thing jumped out in my mind I just had to say. So I raised my hand to answer and he called on me.
"Well," I begain, "A pastor needs to be saved."
No one said a word, and they looked at me. I wondered what I'd said wrong. FInaly my pastor said "Well that sure wasn't what I was thinking of, but that would definatly help! "
We need men of God today. Men who will take a stand. Who refuse to comprmise despite what the world thinks. Men who preach God's word without apology. Men who are bold, but also compassionate. Men who hate sin but love the sinner. I pray we have more men of God, called to preach, rather than men who think pastoring is a good "profession." Because it's not something that a person just decides to do...it's something God calls a man to do. And God dosn't call the qualified, but qualifies the called.

This describes MY pastor! He goes up and down the aisles before the services, greeting everyone, calling them by name and checking on families, etc. Bro. Alan is so genuine! I feel like he's my good friend, my pastor and my preacher all rolled into one godly and yet funny man!

I hope people see me as a Man of God.

I try to hold to all of the job descriptions: meek, blameless, patient, non-drinker, hospitable, respectful and the like.

Unfortunately, I get the opinion that the general population in my age range (25-30) within the Christian community of my area view me like a museum exhibit

"Everyone respects me as valuable, but no one would really care to get to know me on an intimate level." Weird.

Unfortunately from talking to many, I believe that comes from a number or closet skeletons that most of my male peers possess. They have pass(or maybe present) histories of promiscuity, alcohol consumption, and revelry.

I, on the other hand, am stil a virgin at 26, accomplished, a non-drinker/smoker, and avoid the party scence habituatlly. They often see me as a "goody two shoes" or a "wimp". Very weird.

I'm not better than anybody. I'm worthless without Christ; however, normal men often get threatened by other guys they see as "holy" in accordance to God's word.

I don't know why...I'm harmless.

Another note: Christian women don't seem to like Men of God in my experience. They prefer someone on a lower level of spirituality with a little "sinfulness" in them.

Perhaps that stems from their own secret insecurity of whether their level of devotion to Christ will measure up to the Men of God that are interested in them.

Just food for thought.

 

Dick Hillis of TEAM Mission once said, "You take care of yur spiritual relationship and God will take care of your geographical location."

It is so very true as one seeks to follow the Lord in service. Everything falls into place in His time. When we push, we often land in trouble.

The Lord wants Peters as much as He wants Pauls, and mostly He wants you and me as we are.
